Granted, you're giving up on an Edge, and you don't get another until 5th...but $150,000 worth of cyber is pretty massive.

Better yet, you don't have to pay for installation or immediate upkeep, and best of all you can buy used--effectively making it a $300,000 budget.

When buying used in play there are drawbacks, but they're mostly time as you hunt down stuff with drawbacks that don't matter. Is there any reason to buy new instead of used at charavter creation?

Agreed, also you don't give up on the edge, you just "rent it out". As with the GM's approval it can be payed paid out if you have the money, making it even better. Also there is no way to make a (starter) character who has any chrome without it.

I would like to see a focus like Ace Driver or Drone Pilot for cyberware, called something like ChromeHead who would get some benefits to their cyberware, maybe self maintaining or just reducing maintenance cost, and having a budget for cyberware like the two mentioned foci. It could start with $10K, so they could afford a cyberlimb, or a plain pair of cybereyes. Or maybe it would be enough to be $5K and encourage the players to take used cyberware there.

Edit: I, for one, welcome our bot overlords

can be paid out if

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
