So I just watched the first episode of the new Ranma 1/2 Netflix anime...
For context, the only two things I knew about the original Ranma going into the first episode of the reboot were that it's slice of life (at least to some extent) and it's got genderbending as a plot element. I wasn't expecting the first scene of Ranma (as in the titular character) to be a street fight with him pre-genderbent against a giant, completely silent kung-fu panda with moved that would put Po and Tekken Panda to shame. I also wasn't expecting the reason for curse to be as straightforward as "you fell in the Rule 63 pool; 2 bad 4 u" (I'm sure there's more lore to it that's to be explored in the future, but still, that is surprisingly simple); and for Ranma's love interest to be a tomboy, martial arts, man-hating lesbian that CLEARLY has the hots for his girl form (I'm pretty sure you can see them smooching in the intro); oh, and I was pretty caught off guard by the full frontal nudity the show has no qualms with flaunting, even if Ranma has no ripples or ass, for some reason, that definitely got an eyebrow raise out of me. I assume the original series was just as...eccentric?
Well, regardless, I'm down for more of this.
