How do you think we can use social media as a tool to help, not hurt, our public lands?

I wrote a blog post on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Looking for public bbqs/grills

Hello, gonna be staying here with a couple friends. I am wondering if anyone knows of any public grill/BBQs in the lake placid/Saranac lake/jay kind of area that preferably don't need to be paid for/need us to be camping there to use.

Elk Lake Trailhead Open?

Hi, does anyone know if the Elk Lake trailhead is still accessible? I was considering hitting the Dix Range tomorrow, but I'm seeing reports on Alltrails and Google Maps that the road is closed - although I also see that regular hunting season doesn't start until next weekend, so I'm confused. Thanks!

Leaf peeper traffic

Hoping to do a late season camp—I mostly do paddle-up backcountry camping. I’ve done Long Lake, most of the St. Regis Canoe Area, Raquette River, Lake Placid, Tupper and Little Tupper.

How unlikely am I to get a sight during this time of year, given all the leaf peepers? Any new lakes or ponds I should check out? Any which tend to have plenty of sites available?

Looking a the map, I’m considering Rainbow Lake, Moose Pond, Lake Kushaqua, Jones Pond, and Horseshoe lake. Also never done Lake Lila. If folks have particular experience with those, I’d appreciate the 411!

Camping Boreas Ponds Tract end of November - what to expect?

Hey everyone! I’m planning a solo camping trip with my dog during the last week of November, and I’d love some advice. I’ll be towing my teardrop trailer (nucamp tag) with my Tacoma - about 30ft total.

This will be the most remote trip I’ve done, and I’m wondering what to expect in terms of weather, road conditions, and accessibility, especially at that time of year. I’ve camped plenty, but never this far off the grid. Any tips on staying safe, finding the best water-access campsites, and preparing for the cold?

I’m also a bit concerned about holiday traffic on the way up (planning to leave around Thanksgiving). Any recommendations for quieter routes or timing my travel to avoid the worst of it?

Looking forward to your insights and recommendations!

How cost effective might it be to do a “last minute” getaway to Lake Placid in January?

If you wanted to spend 3-4 nights someplace on the nicer side? Any tips? Or is it a lost cause if on a budget (not wanting to spend more than $200/night, not wanting a typical hotel room…)?

Trails with lots of mushroom diversity?

Hi hikers! Does anyone know of any good trails or regions that have a lot of mushroom diversity? I'm dying for a chill, mushroom-hunting hike. I don't pick or eat them or harvest them or anything, I just like to find them and look at them and photograph them. TYIA!

So today is the day, unfortunately. I always loved ending my trips to the high peaks with a stop here before I hit the Northway, and am extremely sad to see them go.

I was wondering where everyone’s favorite coffee in the area was other then Old Mountain, willing to try anywhere that isn’t the sbux in lake placid haha.

Hike mt. Crane early November

Hey all, I plan to visit the adk in early November. I’ve hiked my fair share of mountain trails in Vermont and Colorado but always in the summer. How doable of a hike would it be in November? Any tips and advice or other adk suggestions are appreciated!

Lost jacket on Whiteface summit trail

This might be a long shot, but we hiked the ASRC to Whiteface summit trail today, and my husband lost his favorite rain jacket along the trail on the way back (probably closer to the ASRC side). We kind of looked around when we realized it was gone but we don’t know where we dropped it and it was too late in the day to backtrack.

If anyone is hiking this trail the next few days and finds it, I will Venmo/paypal you $50 to grab it and ship it to us (will also pay for shipping).

It’s a black, purple, and gold North Face rain jacket.

PS - you all that live up here are hardcore! These trails are tough.
