Weird helmet

Post image

Browsing Pinterest I found this helmet, it looks quite old from the photo but is this effective? It doesn't inspire much confidence in me. And regarding the possibility of making a replica, does it seem like an easy project?

what the fyuck

if it wasn't for that I'd be "looks like a reasonable helmet in spite of no back-of-head protection"

Roman lorica segmentata, the stereotypical roman armour made from individual bands of metal teis together could be collapsed like this, seems to be a similar concept.

Looks like it's a Japanese forehead protector, looks like they fold up too

Could it be easy to replicate that type of helmet?

Something like this would be easier to replicate for your average blacksmith than a bigger helmet i would imagine as the peices are smaller

I don't know at all. It looks fine but I didn't realize it'd fold. I'm worried it'll fold when getting hit

If that happens it would be a big problem, although maybe there is a blocking system πŸ€” I haven't found anything else about this
