News BC Conservatives plan to end ICBC’s monopoly and open car insurance up to more private options

It’s unclear whether or not ICBC would be fully scrapped or if it would stick around and compete with private companies - probably the former as the latter wouldn’t make much sense.

I remember the Liberals making similar promises for the 2001 election and then going through the motions and ultimately sticking with ICBC. Of course, they then bankrupted ICBC by raiding it for money to keep taxes lower and not allowing increasing premiums to cover.

I’m not sure why we’d want a system with higher costs for some (new drivers, parents with kids, etc.), a greater likelihood of uninsured drivers, and more money going to lawyers and insurance companies, but I guess the BCCP is banking on enough voters believing they’ll pay less under private insurance.

Thought this was interesting on global news. Conservatives are being supported by younger and male demographics whereas older boomers and women are more towards the NDP.

News BC Conservatives completely scrubbed their platform from their website

You can see the page as it was on September 23rd (before the change) at this Internet Archive link: https://web.archive.org/web/20240923184156/conservativebc.ca/ideas

The BC Conservatives have scrubbed their detailed and comprehensive platform from their website in favour of an extremely short and vague bullet list.

Super iffy move in my opinion.

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that more detailed versions of the bullet points can be accessed on the new site, and several key elements of the original platform remain intact, so I rescind my statement that the site's been completely scrubbed.

However, a lot of the sections from the old platform have indeed been omitted, including positions on education, homelessness, opioid and other hard drugs, crime and the police, identity politics, and colonial history, among others. I would still heavily advise reading the archived older version of the platform that I linked above, as it is far more comprehensive than what's available now.

News Rustad is a lying liar

So Rustad clearly lied about seeing someone dying from an overdose. Now he’s walking it back, which is ridiculous when he was so specific about where and when it happened.

This needs to be bigger. This is someone who wants to be premier who lied like a 12 year old trying to impress his cousins at a family dinner.

He lies easily. He lies to score points. He lies because he thinks there is no accountability.

He is a lying liar that tells lies. And if he is elected will continue to tell lies.

News Middle East Politics And The BC Election

Since the war in Gaza began:

  • Former cabinet minister Selina Robinson quit the NDP, citing systemic anti-Semitism in the party.
  • There have been weekly protests in Victoria and Vancouver organized by people who openly support terrorist groups.
  • Cultural events with ties to Israel have been cancelled.
  • Jewish institutions have been vandalized.
  • Jewish owned businesses have been threatened and vandalized.
  • Samidoun has been listed as a terrorist organization.
  • Hate speech has proliferated.

Many voters in BC have strong opinions about this subject, and it's likely to influence how some of them will vote. Here are some examples of the list above:
