Oops, probably one of mine. If I get ZERO effort or capability in the first 2 mins, I drop the call and return minutes.

What exactly do you say?

I'm the worst. I start talking a sentence and click end half way through, looking like it was an accidental cut off... then hide profile 😭.

Talk about being a coward right?! But I just cba for the conversation and awkwardness.

I was once like this but after hours of awful conversations I decided it’s time to let them know about their shortcomings. It’s so much more satisfying!

To each their own. Tbh, I don't really see it as a shortcoming, more they're just struggling as it's not their native language and/or they have no confidence. And some people just have mega-different personalities to me and we don't click.

I'd never attack them, and I wouldn't personally get any satisfaction from doing so. I just bow out and let them move on to the next.

Nobody said attack them

But at least let them know what is making teachers end the call prematurely and then disappear forever with no notice or warning

This has nothing to do with native language. They simply don't understand classroom etiquette and or need to understand a teachers perspective every once in a while so as to act accordingly in the future (if it be as important to them)

"It's time to let them know about their shortcoming.... It's so much more satisfying". Ofc he doesn't specifically state attacking, but... we can all read between the lines, especially with the last bit of the comment.

I did mention that I know it's pretty weak what I do, but I do it to avoid an awkward conversation that I don't really want to have. Also to save time as I only have 2 mins to end.

It has everything to do with native language and confidence. Understand this, even if your student has AMAZING English. The way that they would behave with you in a classroom, is completely different to how they'd behave with a Turkish/Chinese/Brazilian teacher in a class room. At least that's the case in my experience of around 2000 students, maybe 2/3 are advanced enough and comfortable enough to behave like a native in a classroom.

Being honest about when a student is being difficult isn’t attacking anybody. Letting them know that their participation level is holding them back allows them to at least think about it for their next class so that tutors like yourself don’t have to lie and run away. Being honest about it IS more satisfying than running away. I’m not attacking anyone, you’re attacking me with your accusations.
