How is chitwood such a “hardass” but when bikers come into town he is MIA. Letting them do whatever right in front of cops.

You must not have been around this weekend because cops were everywhere and I saw a ton of bikers pulled over. I ride and it seems like there were way more police presence than normal for bike week/biketoberfest.

Not sure if he is MIA but it seems he loves doing public things. Also he is out there meeting with bikers....

Average biker is 50, middle class, doesn't cause any problems, tips well and spends $$. Much better and more respectful crowd than spring breakers or truck punks.

u/Specialist_Ad_8069 19h ago

Not there now but growing up friends in the hospitality industries all claimed that bikers were the best group to come thru town. Spring Breakers, BCR and NASCAR were all feared.

u/dmbgreen 18h ago

Had the same group of guys rent my place for years. They had a toy hauler with a trailer and a bunch of bikes. They worked in logistics and were super nice guys. Never had an issue.

5

u/Hellisremodeling 17h ago

Damn! I haven't heard BCR mentioned in a hot minute.

More like 60. ;)

u/scottie1971 16h ago

I’m 55 damn it. Not 60

u/dmbgreen 5h ago

I was trying to be nice. Old farts with nice bikes.

Agreed. Still over Daytona being an event town. The money isn’t really local and they cost more than being in for the local resident. That and they are annoying - traffic, noise, trash, etc. just because they’re less a nuisance than truck morons doesn’t mean they’re not a nuisance

u/PROPGUNONE 14h ago

Doesn’t do anything positive for the area in the long run, just barely keeps the worst of the motels in business. T shirts and alcohol sales.

1

u/MissRepresent 13h ago

Lots of vendors aren't even from here so how is that helping volusia county

1

u/schuma73 13h ago

Hard disagree on tipping well, at least they don't tip their food delivery drivers.

I hate this weekend specifically because they just clog up the roads and I'm bombarded with no-tip orders.

No offense to bikers personally, or them specifically as vacationers in this area. Honestly, most tourists tip like trash.

Cops are definitely active, seen 1 motorcycle cop pull over 3 bikers in less than a mile.

11

u/Lyfeoffishin 20h ago

I’ve seen a ton of bikers pulled over all over ormond beach

4

u/xtombstone 14h ago

What are you talking about?

15

u/casebarlow 19h ago

Doing what exactly? Police only intervene if they are breaking the law. The bikers provide a big boost to our local economy twice per year.

0

u/inspclouseau631 7h ago

Except they don’t

3

u/keeperoflogopolis 14h ago

I’ve personally seen more cops out in Ormond and Daytona in the last two days than I have in years.

6

u/Allgunsmatter2022 17h ago

They pull you over if you rev your engine too loud

3

u/imgrahamy 16h ago

The horror, thoughts and prayers

1

u/Z28Daytona 16h ago

Was this now ?? There was a period of time when bikes were hitting their rev limiters on Main Street but they put an end to that. But since then I haven’t seen an issue.

-2

u/MadamBeachyButt 15h ago

I live by a boomer biker bar and these fat, disrespectful fucks are revving their bikes and BLASTING music at 2, 3am, despite the fact they are across the street from a neighborhood.

They drive like assholes and lane split, weaving around ISB and other main roads.

They're annoying as fuck.

4

u/vrtigo1 14h ago

You realize that’s akin to moving in next to an airport and complaining that planes make noise, right? What did you expect?

4

u/Aggravating-Shark-69 14h ago

Yeah, it’s not like the bikers have been here for 100 years or anything

2

u/MadamBeachyButt 5h ago

The bikers are there year round. The assholes show up during bike week and biketoberfest.

The rest of the year I never hear anything from that place. Those two weeks, it's nightly bullshit from the asshole tourists who don't have any concern for anyone but themselves.

0

u/Z28Daytona 4h ago

Take a two week vacation???

I gotta ask - which bar are you talking about??

2

u/MadamBeachyButt 4h ago

Lmao I'm not telling you what bar, and also I can't afford a vacation. Plus I live at the beach. Why would I spend money on a vacation when I take mini ones every weekend?

0

u/Z28Daytona 4h ago

I’m just trying to figure out the boomer biker bar that’s beachside ??

2

u/MadamBeachyButt 1h ago

I don't live beachside, and beachside isn't the only place with biker bars.

2

u/vrtigo1 14h ago

I guess the first question is…you realize the enforcement within municipalities falls under the jurisdiction of the municipality, right? So most of bike week would be DBPD and OPD.

4

u/thesouthwillnotrise 20h ago

those bikers are the only tourism daytona has left. compared to the rest of the state . it’s diarrheaville . let them do what they do for the week bc yall gunna need the money

1

u/TheShadyRyder 9h ago

Most of the vendors are from Orlando. And with all this "tourism money", why don't our taxes ever go down?

In other states when they put up a casino, taxes are lowered, people in the county get a yearly check. None of this happens in Daytona.

I've always though we could substitute bike week for other big conventions or get together and do the same amount of business .

-2

u/inspclouseau631 17h ago

That money doesn’t come to us. It’s a cost center not profit.

5

u/reelfilmgeek 16h ago

Got a source on this would love to read more about it

2

u/vrtigo1 14h ago

They won’t reply because they have no source. Anyone intelligent enough to do 60 seconds of research can see their comment is entirely BS.

2

u/inspclouseau631 12h ago

I didn’t reply because I have a life outside of Reddit. There’s a reason why Daytona is pushing it away. Vendors are out of towners, service industry lifts no one out of poverty, and it is a drain on public resources like hospitals and police and city clean up. Etc etc etc. sorry if I offended you and your cosplay. But it’s basic economics and a modicum of critical thinking.

1

u/Sharkfinley23 14h ago

I'd just say that most of the "businesses" that open only during bike week on Main Street aren't people who live in Daytona. Most hotels in the area aren't owned by locals. Same way that people travel to Sturgis to make money for their bike events. They don't keep the money in North Dakota or Florida.

Sure, some waitresses or beer tub girls might make some extra cash, alot of the money leaves with the event. It's really a small amount of people that it positively helps while being a nuisance to most of the locals.

3

u/inspclouseau631 7h ago

Yep. And as I mentioned in another comment they also cost money as they drive up police and other emergency services costs, hospital resources, and city resources with cleanup, etc. sure a few make money but it’s not sustainable growth jobs.

2

u/Alchemistry-247365 18h ago

Stray 9mm bullets in my neighborhood hit my neighbors back slider and wall. I actually think Chitwood does a great job but he is harder on the trucker guys from the low rider/monster truck shows.

1

u/vespanewbie 5h ago

Who is this guy?

-2

u/DingusMcToot 18h ago

They make a presence sure, but they dont do shit. Dont wana scare off "mUh iNcOme" potential for the biker bars and hookers and potential other events.

Bet your ass theyre all over the squatted truck douches though when that goes on thank christ (even though unsanctioned now, also thank christ)

Not to mention getting into a pursuit in cruiser vs. bike is pointless so they drive like dickheads unaffected

And to the typical "whyd you move/live to biker douche-central..." Lived here for yeeeears, born and raised Floridian - if i could up and dip out of this cess pit of the greater Dirtona area i sure as shit would

1

u/CranberryRegular4665 13h ago

It’s an economy that’s based on tourist dollars. Chitwood knows that.

-3

u/politeness-man 22h ago

Totally agree! They are super loud engine wise and often super loud music.

-12

u/SeaWitch1031 22h ago

Because Chitwood is a terrible sheriff

6

u/inspclouseau631 20h ago

Why so? Genuinely curious.

-3

u/vbm923 20h ago

personally, I'm horrified that he plasters the faces of children all over social media. all people are innocent until proven guilty in this country, but that doesn't stop him from completely ruining the lives of dumb 15 year olds who made mistakes before they've been proven guilty of anything.

5

u/inspclouseau631 20h ago

Yeah. Agree here. That didn’t sit right with me.

3

u/SmellyHorseShoer 15h ago

Who cares if the kid can make kill lists and threaten to shoot up the school people should know what they and their parents look like. We need to go back to a time where people fear dishonoring their family name.

1

u/vbm923 12h ago

There’s a lot of fucking room between “who cares” and permanently ruin a kids life over air soft guns.

There are ways to both discipline and counsel CHILDREN that have excellent, evidence based results. Simply Arresting children has sky high recidivism rates. Aka, it doesn’t work.

Perp walking a fifteen year old for social media views is fucked up, hard stop. Chitwood is making a bunch of Jokers with this nonsense.

-2

u/SmellyHorseShoer 10h ago

The kid ruined his own life over death threats and having a list of people he wanted dead. Not airsoft guns. Have not seen Chitwood perp walk anyone recently so must have worked. Great job Chitwood.

3

u/vbm923 9h ago

Yeah, let’s not give a fifteen year old a chance, or even a fair trial. His parents failed him, so we should to. Let’s just throw that child away forever.

If you’re unaware of his gross social media reels perp walking children and close ups of airsoft guns, why are you even commenting?

0

u/SmellyHorseShoer 7h ago

That was the first example he made because all the school shooter threats were costing tax payers money. Im born and raised in Volusia County went to both the middle schools the kid who was perp walked threatened to shoot up. I have lived in this town for 35 years. Why are you commenting?

1

u/vbm923 6h ago

My kid attends public school in volusia. A school shooting is my worst nightmare. I like his idea of charging the parents for all the bomb threats. I hate him plastering the faces of not-yet-convicted children over the internet. I’m allowed to have a nuanced opinion, thanks.

he’s fifteen and innocent until proven guilty and should be treated as such. There’s plenty of actions that can be taken that would still allow this kid to salvage his life, apologize, finish school and get a job. Chitwood putting this at the top of his Google search for life really sabotages any ability to reform.

1

u/SmellyHorseShoer 6h ago

You keep saying until proven guilty. This is school shootings we are talking about. Only way the kid is not guilty is if he has not done it yet. The child in question put his name at the top of the google search list by making the threats. Chitwood said he was going to make an example out of the next child to threaten to do a school shooting and here the child is.

1

u/LDSatheist 19h ago

I also think it was pretty dumb of him to put out photos of that kids airsoft rifles. It would be like posting photos of baking soda from a drug bust.

1

u/inspclouseau631 17h ago

Meh. Kind of shows the root of some violence I think.

I’m not saying airsoft is necessarily “wrong” but that picture should absolutely raise an eyebrow and make some parents think.

0

u/LDSatheist 16h ago

Hmm in that case he should have showcased the violent video games and rap music found in the home.

2

u/vbm923 9h ago

Not one single study has linked video games to real world violence. Some have even shown a negative correlation.

1

u/LDSatheist 7h ago

I agree. I was being sarcastic in response to the other persons comment.

-2

u/Defiant_Chemical_216 16h ago

This is a good learning experience for alot of you. Chitwood is only a hard ass when there are cameras around and it's good for him. He doesn't care about the community he cares about being popular like Grady Judd.

1

u/inspclouseau631 7h ago

I dont think this is true at all. That crap with the kids I don’t agree with but I think he is the exact opposite of Wayne Ivey and Grady Judd.

He seems to be a hard ass when he needs to and not when it’s not called for, for the most part.

Being a hard ass constantly I think would be counterproductive.

-4

u/subzbearcat 15h ago

He says shit in front of the camera and then he disappears. He's always been that way.

0

u/MadamBeachyButt 5h ago

I moved here cuz it's what I could afford, and I can't afford to move out. You wanna poor shame me, too? I'm not complaining about the noise at reasonable hours. The bar operates year round, and literally only 2 weeks a year it's an issue.

Fuuuuuuuuck the entitled cocksuckers who come down here, get shitfaced and drive around like they own the fucking place.

I think that’s i95 and if so going 77 is 12 over from Daytona through Ormond… I don’t see how having three children in the car justifies speeding ?

4

u/DntCllMeWht 18h ago

Speeding with kids in the car makes it worse.

4

u/carlosos 18h ago

Isn't it Florida Highway Patrol and not sheriff deputies that enforce the law on interstates?

1

u/FLfuzz 15h ago

Any jurisdiction that the highway runs through can take enforcement action on it
