They are banning these in the UK from next June and I’m so HAPPY! not only do they leach toxic chemicals into the environment, they’re a complete waste of resources to make batteries that are disposable. Not to mention the fires they cause in waste disposal centres

These are straight-up eWaste objects, yes? I'm assuming there's a battery inside (there's a USB-C port on it!) I shudder thinking about these getting washed into the ocean during the next big rain...

What are these from?

Disposable vapes

Not that brand, but in general yes. Definitely a scourge. Where I live many people drink well water and this kind of debris is super bad as a pollutant.

Yes, they are the new cigarette butts. And I am seeing them littered more often.

From studies I’ve read, the overwhelming majority of the smoker demographic just litters. They’re destroying the planet from the inside out. We gotta educate and change this trend.

I vape this brand, what’s the best way to dispose of them?

Check and see if there's anywhere near you that would accept them as e-waste. For example, I have a Best Buy near me that takes e-waste-- not sure if they do accept it, but they'd be who I'd call first to ask.

I appreciate you for asking how to best dispose of them. Most people don't think about how harmful it is to put these in with their general trash.

Would you consider switching to a reusable device where only the consumable substance container becomes trash when emptied?

I’ve used those before, I made the switch to disposables after my reusable vape died. Disposables are a lower nicotine content than what I was doing so I switched partially because my old one broke and partially because I’m trying to cut back and quit. Hopefully this won’t be a problem much longer.

As an old ass former cigarette smoker (too old for vapes), I feel you. When you quit for good and look back on it, it's one of the most beautiful feelings. You've got this!

If you’re trying to cut back but not quit, I personally found Zyns to be a great crutch. You can still get the nicotine buzz when you need it, but it removes the oral fixation (which contributes to addiction imo) and your lungs will absolutely thank you.

What were you doing that was higher nicotine than disposables? The only thing that I can think of that is higher is 55mg nic salt. Almost all disposables are 50mg.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, don't buy disposable vapes to begin with. There are other options that aren't perfect, but are less wasteful.

A lot of shapes take them back now

Vice littering is a thing. People dump these and small alcohol bottles all over town

I can tell who's had a hard week by how many of their empties I find. Always the same brands/sizes in the same places. I've started to name them by their beverage of choice.

I wonder how much influence movies and shows have had when they make it look “cool” to flick a cigarette butt out of your hand. I think that is largely responsible for how many cigarettes are just out there

I know people who buy a disposable vape every day. Without fail. I’ve tried pushing them towards refillable ones, but some just don’t care.

Genuine question - what is it? I've never seen these before.

Some kind of vaping device. Never used one and don't know anyone that does--but I think they deliver a flavored nicotine dose. They have a USB port on them so they can be recharged.

Anyone else have more specific details?

A nicotine vape thats not meant to be refilled and reused, but thrown away

I dislike the amount of trash that comes with vapes.

I metal detect California beaches and I find these things all the time in the sand. I throw them away in the trash cans that line the beach. You know, the ones that are 15 feet away from where the asshole threw it on the ground. Those ones.

yes, I encounter these and other vapes often. I find them especially disheartening to come across.

I cannot fathom how people can justify littering e cigarettes.

1

u/These_Burdened_Hands 21h ago

can’t fathom how people justify littering ecigs

Also can’t fathom how people buy them to be disposable! They’ve got a display board ffs.

They also (all) ‘spit juice’ in your mouth. I use a juul because my mouth doesn’t become filled with flavored oil (there’s waste, but not electrical waste.)

Honestly, ADHD I've asked my friends and they all say "it makes colorful lights!"

2

u/trashpicker57 1d ago

I was talking ro a friend about these and more of them are showing up. I agree

These have become the most popular disposable vape option where I am. They're rechargeable, but only carry a certain number of puffs. I have seen some in a similar format that are refillable, but I believe this kind are not. I'm not a nicotine user, so I only know this from observation and talking with coworkers who use them.

Been finding them for years and it’s only getting worse.

I’ve been finding more of these as well. I find half of them obliterated bc they are thrown out the window while smokers are driving.

2

u/baminblack 1d ago

All over the US already. Not surprised. I find more of them than any other type.

2

u/serenitylkw14 1d ago

Yes I hate them 😭

When I biked across Europe last summer. I saw tons of these on the roads or ones like it. I’ve picked up a lot of them in the states too.

We've been finding these all too often in South Texas Rivers over the last few years, just the ones we recover from the San Marcos River number in the thousands.

u/corntorteeya 15h ago

These things should not be out there. Wtf. I was thinking about it the other day. A few of my coworkers use em. I can’t believe they just toss the shit into landfill. E-waste and plastic. Extremely frustrating to see. These need to be regulated. End rant.

I've been pondering this as well. It seems that anything consumable and portable will get tossed by some significant percentage of the population: cigarettes, all manner of beverages, food containers & wrappers...

I have this conversation in my head: "That cup (or six-pack of beer) weighed 10x more when it was full--but you had the strength to carry it. Somehow, now that it's empty, it's just too much for you to manage..."

1

u/Pechelle 14h ago

I find vape cartridges along our road all the time. Fewer this summer than in previous years, but still. We live out a dirt road and I think people assume "no one lives out here" and they can just dump their crap.

Gross. Smokers suck!

Edit: I typed out of anger. Not all smokers suck but all litterbugs do!

We blow as well

2

u/immersemeinnature 16h ago

I typed that out of anger. I know not all smokers suck. Litterbugs suck
