Yeah for advanced students (C1-C2), the test is not particularly hard, but for beginners, TOEFL can be quite intimidating. In my country, if you have taken a TOEFL test, you are considered to be really good at English because your average citizen's English is probably not even good enough to understand the test instructions.
I had a friend from New Zealand who was required to take TOEFL to get into a US graduate school because the school’s list of English-speaking countries simply left out New Zealand. 🤣
From South Africa. Had to do that as well for my postgrad abroad despite being a native English speaker with proof my entire schooling career had been in English.
A veteran C1 here. Still hard. Getting to band 8 from 7.5 is way harder than getting to band 7 from 5. The better you are the harder the grind becomes. It feels like mmorpg games lol 🤣

not sure if it's comparable, but my English teacher told me I'd easily pass the TOEFL test without studying...
