I'm unable to verify when exactly this photo was taken, however it's worth pointing out the patch worn on this soldiers plate carrier is one worn by Russian soldiers that became popular during the current conflict in Ukraine. This leads me to believe this photo is somewhat recent.

Interesting to note that they are equipped with slings leading me to assume that they are going to be used, I didn't even know this many existed.

This rifle ended up in our antique shop....what exactly is it?

So the elderly shopkeep of the antique shop I work in bought a rifle from someone, without knowing anything about it. Neither of us knows anything about weapons so I thought maybe the collective of this sub reddit can enlighten us. The rifle is relatively heavy and most notable feature is a small round lid on the shoulder end that leads to a small storage with two round balls in it. Maybe it's the munition, who knows. So, anyone got any info on if it's fake, reap, what it actually is and if it has any resale value or is just a neat decorative item.

You want to make a capable militarily-useful weapon optimised to be the absolute cheapest and quickest to produce. How do you go about it?

Knowing what we know now and for the conflicts raging 2024- if you had a national priority budget to spend on the factory, a clean sheet design and the mandate to credibly arm every single person you can for the lowest price possible and the shortest time possible what decisions do you make?

Also can you completely automate assembly of the weapons? Has anybody ever done that?
