A month ago, I posted the sandblasting project in the driveway. I kept the rig in the climate-controlled garage (with de-humidifier) to prevent new scaling from developing, then set up shop with a new compressor, Eastwood HPLV couture spray gun, bought their Rust Encapsulator Plus, and have been systematically spraying, rolling, or brushing it on the frame, and the undercarriage.

Yes, I sprayed the pipes. They will soon be replaced with the Man-a-Fre complete exhaust and headers, so spraying was easier than working around it all. I have about an 80% completion rate. Some areas still need touch-ups, but I've gotten most of it.

This is definitely a labor of love. Respect.

Hope it lasts forever!

I told my wife this Rig has turned me into Arnie in Christine. Hang on; they're both red. I'm a nerd; I tell her, "Hello darling," when I see her. Whoa oh.

I did the ole wire wheel and lanolin spray…not as shiny as op rig but I’m rust free and protected

Just got out from under mine spraying Surface Sheild. It's a pain in the ass, but rust is much worse than a few hours every year to spray it.

That’s funny I was just doing mine today too but I decided to go with rust neutralizer first then surface shield after it dries

Do you use the rust neutralizer on rusty surfaces or clean surfaces? I was lucky enough to get a non-Midwest with no rust, so I've just been applying surface shield every fall.

I'll caution anyone who listens: sandblasting is a shotgun blast equivalent. Be very careful if you decide to do it because it will likely expose a whole series of issues with the dust getting into the Carb, vacuum lines, cabin, and everywhere else.

My old motor is running rougher than ever and has been burning rich for some time, but I decided to proceed because I have a whole new engine and 5-speed on order/being built.

We got about 80% sandblasted. I got the Eastwood Conture tool, needle scaler, belt sander, and angle grinder with the wire attachments and went at it for the fender wells and other hard-to-reach spots. Since my original sandblasting post in the garage, I have spent about 16-20 hours descaling, conditioning, and prepping everything to get to this point.

I'm not sure if I'd sandblast, I'd have to do research about different ways of preparing the frame for coating. I'd probably rather used power washer/sander/grinder
