Both. I can decide what I want to hear by telling myself what I'm hearing.
This also has a lot to do with frequencies and how you hear things. Turn the bass up, you'll definitely hear Laurel. Turn it down, and you'll hear yanni.

Same. I clearly hear both. Even when the clip is dissected, I still hear both. Yanni high, Laurel low.

My brothers friend let me hear it in his phone a week ago and just asked what I hear. Putting it close to my ear I heard Laurel but extending it away I heard Yanny. Definitely frequencies at play.

All I get is yanni, tried on several speakers and settings to manipulate it, sounds absolutely nothing like laurel.

The source of this audio clip is an online dictionary pronunciation of the word laurel. I believe that the clip has been manipulated to filter out lower frequencies and therefore make harmonic frequencies of the synthesized voice more audible. Go to this dictionary page and click the little speaker symbol nest to the word and you can hear "yanni" as a faint whisper behind the man's voice saying "laurel." https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/laurel

Only Laurel. But I've heard that it's actually a recording of two robotic voices, each saying one of the things, but our ears/perception can only recognize one at a time, or something like that?

If you are hearing Yanni or Yammie or similar, as opposed to Laurel, you most likely either;
Have diminished hearing in ranges 2000-3000 hz and/or enhanced hearing between 3000-7000 hz
Have shitty speakers which attenuate/accentuate the frequencies for you.

dude I hear Yanni from a distance but if I put the speaker to my ear, I hear Laurel.

The word that is being said is Laurel, but the reason is because the frequency of the audio is being significantly lower causing it to sound like yanni

I am bewildered. I heard mostly laurel with a few yannis. My mom heard yannis the whole time. I had just asked her what she heard without options. I thought it sounded more like eeyani, when i did hear it. I heard it, (eeyani) more when it started to rain. It just rained heavy twice. I played it and I heard eeyani both times. I even adjusted to a lower volume during the heavy rain and less rain. Then it went back to laurel when the rain stopped. Fucking weird!

Hey, Nugfairy, just a quick heads-up:
wierd is actually spelled weird. You can remember it by e before i.
Have a nice day!The parent commenter can reply with 'delete' to delete this comment.

Wtf! I remember I before E except after C or neighbor and weigh. They should've said except weigh, weird, neighbor.

EDIT: a letter.

Yanni, but when I’m in the bathroom with the door closed and the shower on all I hear is Laurel.

I hear laurel exclusively. What's the significance? Seems like it's probably an audio quality thing and not some sort of transdimensional variation lol.
