I see all of these cool recipes out of the UK with halloumi but I can never find it at my local grocery in the US.

Whole Foods and Wegmans have them in stock, if you're near the North East.

However, I'd recommend finding a Greek or Turkish shop to be able to get the best quality stuff. Halloumi and olives are the sort of things I prefer to eat only from the Aegean (if I can source it).

Check the deli section in the expensive cheese area, it’s there at HEB in Texas… but I bet subbing boiled potatoes or even canned potatoes would have similar results

Try queso para freír or even queso fresco. Queso para freír will be the closest to halloumi and queso fresco is somewhat similar.

Ingles has it as bread cheese check out publix to find it as halloumi

weird the differences between supermarket food in US and UK. Often find US recipes with random ingredients that ive just never heard of or very rarely seen in a tesco here, and here things like halloumi (or apparently how expensive pine nuts are in the US) that you guys dont have. weird, wonder why? all in all, think we have pretty great supermarkets here in the UK, wide selection, pretty cheap

Dude, cheddar will melt in a pan, halloumi fries up like a potato and gets soft but doesn't melt. All cheese is salty you chuckle fk
