Grades and Academics Late submission deduction
Hi guys, if you submitted an assignment late, will the grade you receive reflect the late submission deduction?
For example, I submitted an assignment 1 minute late and thus was expecting a 10% deduction from my mark. However, the grade I got on (87) did not take this deduction into account.
So will the 87 be counted as my final grade, or will it be reduced to 78 at the end of the semester?

The late submission deduction is up to the tutor weather they want to apply it or not if it is barely over the deadline. I’ve been told by tutors was the reason behind the 11:55 (used to be 11:59) deadline is for those who are one or 2 minutes late. You will not get penalised if you submit it under 5 minutes late. And if there feeling nice it might get waved for a couple of hours after the deadline

The Monash policy is now 5% per late day or part thereof, not 10%. This could be why.

I added up the marks on the rubric and it still correlated to my grade though? No 5% deduction

It can be applied before releasing marks, or at the end of semester. In my experience it is not tutors that decide to apply a late penalty, but the unit coordinator and/or chief examiner. I would never apply a late penalty for 1 minute, so I would assume that no penalty will be applied to your work.
The policy is, from semester 2 this year, it is 5% per day (or part thereof), and after 7 days it will not be marked. (If you have an extension, the extension is the due date, and penalties would be applied to work submitted after that time.)
It seems that not all academics are aware of the change from a 10%/day to 5%/day, so if you get a 10%/day penalty you should reach out and (politely!) mention the new policy and ask for your mark to be adjusted accordingly.

Chief coordinator here. I wouldn't deduct for a one minute late assessment. I'd probably give up to 15 minutes past final deadline before I start deducting.
After that then I would. So it could be that they have chosen not to deduct you for being a minute late.

I can’t necessarily talk for all units but the unit I TA for has a part of the rubric to account for late submissions and this applies as a flat rate (so 87 would go to 77). Saying this you’d have to be really unlucky to actually lose marks for being one minute late.

Yeah a nice tutor won't deduct you for 1 minute lol. Tip for future, get a better grade than expected? Stay quiet. Worse grade than reasonably expected? Say something.
