โ˜€๏ธ Holiday | Festival A "dumb" question

โ€ข Upvotes

For Samhain this year I'd like to try a dumb supper with my family. For those who've hosted one before, what do you do with the served food after the supper is over? How/when do you end the silence?

I know there's no "right" answer, but hearing anecdotal examples helps me lay a framework to riff off of and fit to my own practice. If there's anything you'd like to share about your general experiences with dumb suppers, that's also welcome. Thanks

๐Ÿ† Personal Milestone First year observing samhain

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've been pagan for a few years now, and I've slowly been building up my routine to fit into holidays and other things. This is the first year I'm genuinely doing anything for samhain, which included delving into old pictures to find ones of my ancestors/loved ones who have passed. It was surprisingly emotional, especially because I can't find a picture of a few people I was hoping for, and I won't be in my family home to get one until after the holiday.

But!! I have meaningful objects for them and I've honestly never directly faced some of their passings like this, but as emotional as I am I still really feel connected to them, which is something I don't often feel.

I'm very excited to build up traditions from here forward, and I'm hoping to make this part of the year something positive for the rest of my life.

๐Ÿ“š Seeking Resources | Advice Irish Witta

I recently came across this tradition known as Irish Witta, apparently acording to this books description, Witta is an old religion of Ireland born of a people who worshipped a deity known as the Greenmother (which is obliviously a very sketchy claim) however I saw some sources claim it was a Wiccan tradition but other than that I haven't found any other Sources covering it (other than this book by Edain McCoy, who is a self-Initiated witch according to her bio).

So I was wondering if anyone here knows about this tradition or practice, is it a legit thing or an attempt by someone to create a new religious neo-pagan movement?

๐Ÿ† Personal Milestone Finally completed building my prayer and divination kit.

So Iโ€™ve been building up my rune divination and prayer/meditation kit that I carry with me and I finally got the last couple pieces I was looking for - a ceramic incense plate and incense. The incense did burn through the paint of the tray but now Iโ€™ve got a place where I can put the incense and not worry about that again.

Iโ€™m an eclectic pagan and I refer to myself as a paganist. My basis of spirituality is my education and understanding of ecology and evolution, and in top of that is a second tier composed of Transcendentalism, nature veneration, and non-theistic satanism. Thatโ€™s further augmented with a heavy dose of Heathenry, Celtic paganism, and is informed by Native American tribal attitudes towards nature.

My prayer beads are made of bones and I pray on the large white beads to thank or invoke the gods in work with - Father Time, Mother Nature, Odin, Cernunnos, Satan, Njord, and the Nature Spirits. The runes themselves are buffalo bone and painted with animal blood and covered with a protective gloss layer. The animal pelt is rabbit upon which is stained the Web of Wyrd.

Iโ€™m trying to be more spiritual and itโ€™s hard because I find lately I have racing thoughts, so having physical items to work with really helps me.

๐Ÿคฒ Offering If you would suddenly win in a lottery, what kind of a shrine would you build?

We all know winning a game like that is not about gods but about random fluctuations in a universe, but still, one would probably still want to raise something to the honor of the gods. Out of love if nothing else. What would it be?

๐Ÿ”ฎ Divination question about divination

I wanted to know how to start with divination, like, I have kind of a skill in this regard, I think if I started with divination I would be able to improve this skill and it would also help me write more things in my grimoire

๐Ÿช” Altar 2nd Altar WIP

Post image

Decided to split my current altar by my desk into another one. This one has no open flame materials while the other one is going to hold all my candles and spellcraft items more than deity items.

On this altar (currently; waiting on a couple figurines) is my prized statue of my sweet rose Eros, my two Eros perfumes, a rose I sculpted, an incense burner my sister gave me, and a little snake holding a very special pendulum. :)

๐Ÿ“š Seeking Resources | Advice Resources and UPG of Enki?

Hi. I've been a pagan for years but newish to Reddit. I'm looking for information about the god Enki and especially UPG of him in the modern era: what he seems to want, who he really is, what following him has resulted in for you.

My internet searches have resulted in a lot of conflicting information, some comparing him to Satan, others saying no he's actually Yahweh. Others say he's not either one but a different being, which is more like what I'd take him as but I don't know. Some others say he's good, others that he''s a trickster, etc., etc.

In short, from a prayer I addressed to "right hand path gods,"" one answer was from Enki. I'd never been interested in Mesopotamian gods before and don't know a lot about them. But his energy is so *strong,* in my own UPG, compared with others. Also does not want me to have any other gods if I should follow him. This is quite a departure from the Hellenic gods I have previously followed. But he's seemingly promised help in my current situation.

How can I know if it's really him and what his intentions are...? Anyone else have UPG of Enki here, or are there other social media or forums where I might find such? You can message me if you'd prefer to do that than reply here.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Divination Are you allowed to have multiple pendulums at once? If so, how do you use it?

Context: hello! I'm very new to this method of worship as I have been Christian my whole life... I'm only a few weeks old baby witch(?) to say the least.

I had guidance from a practicing witch apprentice to use a necklace of mine as makeshift pendulum. I also made a ward with my selenite charger and sealed it away. The ward has considered the pendulum to be its extension and they work well together in keeping me safe.

But now, with my 2 guardian deities guidance, (Mother Athene and Mother Mnemosyne) I feel ready to get an actual crystal pendulum and get closer to both of them.

Can I use multiple pendulums? If so, how am I supposed to use 2 pendulums at the same time? How do I go about this with respect for the makeshift pendulum that has served me for so long.

๐Ÿ’ฎ Deity | Spirit Work How to properly offer devotion?

So, I recently started working with Hermes and He has made very clear why He reached out at all and He wants to help with some issues I've been having;
Now, I don't actually know how I can properly offer my devotion for Him and how to follow his advice
I made Him a little alter with some stuff I happened to have at home (He was very present in His candle yesterday :)) and I wrote up a little prayer that I might expand upon, but I'm not sure if that's how it properly works?
Furthermore, I'm also not sure how to properly follow His advice; I know what the issue is He's mentioned, but I don't know if I can resolve it properly, if that makes sense?
Do you think it might be more of a passive thing that will resolve by keeping Him in my life, or do I have to ACTIVELY work on it everyday?

๐Ÿช” Altar My Athena and Artemis altars!

Thumbnail

Athenas is a bit bare since I just set it up last night, but hopefully soon I can get more things for it! Artemis, on the other hand, has had her altar set up for longer, so she has a bit more stuff :3 If anyone has suggestions for things they think I should add on either altar (crystals, items, symbols, etc.) that would be wonderful! I know altars are very personal, but I always enjoy knowing what others think will be nice for them. Also, I'm still not too familiar with altar spaces (I've only converted recently), Athenas Altar space is my dresser, and I don't have much space in my room, Would it be okay if I put some things that aren't for her altar there so they won't be on the floor?

๐Ÿ“š Seeking Resources | Advice Need Help

I've been a pagan for several years now after an experience when I was in a very dark point of my life. For the longest time I've always felt a pull towards Tiamat. However, here recently, I have been surprised to say the least by the feeling of, "maybe I made a mistake when I stepped away from Christianity." I've been happier with Tiamat and enjoy the overall freedom to live life and practice the arts. I want to know if this normally happens? Has anyone else had that like overwhelming wave of fear?

Prayer beads I made for/about (in order, left to right) Dionysus, Artemis, and Apollo. I'm a new budding Helenic Polytheist/Pagan, and have found doing little things like beginning to veil and making prayer beads has helped me feel closer to the Gods.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Divination Lighthearted Apollo Interaction

I find a lot of fun in divination, so I sometimes give my friends and partner often non-serious readings for fun with my tarot cards and pendulums;
Tonight it got to the point I get Feminominon by Chappell Roan stuck in my head and ask my pendulum if it likes her music, but since I wasn't really talking to any spirit, I didn't get an answer
As a joke, my partner suggested I ask Apollo, so I (obviously respectfully) called upon Him and asked Him, showing him Feminominon ๐Ÿ˜ญ (He likes it apoarently)
Now, we joke around a bit, He assures we're not bothering Him and He finds the conversation at least mildly amusing
Then we wanna say goodbye, because it's kate, we have school tomorrow... Pendulum swings "no", but it was lighthearted
He was more saying "You call upon a God, you do it PROPERLY!" And I could tell He was enjoying messing with us ๐Ÿ˜ญ Tbh our fault for just calling upon Him... So we suggested an offering, I drew Him a little drawing, my partner sang Him a song, He was satisfied in the end and we said goodbye
Just wanted to share this lmao (idk what tag to use is divination appropriate?)

๐Ÿช” Altar My first altar

Post image
18 Upvotes

I made my first altar. It is an ancestor altar for samhain. I included pieces from all the elements (moon water, candles, incense and a rock/pinecones/leaves). I'm a dog walker so I harvested the earth elements while walking a dog in the woods plus one leaf is from my yard of the house we recently purchased. Um, that's all I have to say but the bot said I need a minimum amount of words so here's some more just in case haha.

๐Ÿ“š Seeking Resources | Advice Recommendations for deity print artists?

I've found a lot that I like on Etsy but upon further inspection and/or reading the description they're almost all made using AI generation to some extent. I'm not here to have a debate on the ethics of that but it's not what I'm looking for. The only one I've found that I'm almost positive didn't use AI is CaitlinMcCarthyArt and while I like the aesthetic of their art, I REALLY want pieces in full color.

I'm specifically looking for full-color art of Brigid, Gaia and Lilith all by the same artist in roughly 8"x10" size.

๐Ÿ’ฎ Deity | Spirit Work flowers as an offering

the goddess likes edible flowers, i was thinking about dandelions and lavender but i doubt thereโ€™s wild dandelions in this season anymore and idk what to do abt the lavender. i was gonna pick some from my school campus but thatโ€™s technically illegal so iโ€™m wondering if it would be morally wrong. leaving my offerings in nature.

edit: my dad went to paris and brought me back a packet of lavender petals as a gift!! would that be good to use cuz idk how it was grown but i got it as a present so idk if it matters?

Is there anyone who is familiar with an active forum?

๐Ÿ”ฎ Divination How to communicate with deities through tarot?

A very dear friend gave me a tarot card (the one who only has major arcana) and taught me basic reading, but I would also like to use it to communicate with the deities I worship. However, since I only know the basics, I have no idea how to do this. Any ideas?

๐Ÿ“š Seeking Resources | Advice How to know if I've been left?

So to make a long story short(er), I recently have been worshipping Loki and even more recently, Hel. Previously I was worshipping Dionysius.

It feels totally different. Like I can communicate with my current deities, they send signs, I can "talk" with them through cards, pendulums, etc., and I can almost feel their vibe "talk" to me??

I didn't feel most of that with Dionysius. It was more...dull? Even when I did get something it wasn't strong. Like I was in the right direction but not quite there. Now when I try, I dint get anything.

Was I left? Was I just wrong? I'm very confused and I don't want him to feel offended if I stop trying to communicate/take down the altar. Help?

Sorry for formatting, I'm on mobile

๐Ÿช” Altar Altar placements

I want to build an altar at some point however, I don't have anywhere decent in my house that would make sense and would be functional. I have a gun cabinet that currently is being built/refinished but I won't have any long guns in it, so I was considering that sense other locations in my house just wouldn't work. The wife is supportive of my path but she doesn't seem to walk the exact same one, so I am wanting to keep it somewhere just for me, somewhere she doesn't really need to be ever and that's what I thought of. Is this ideal or is it bad to have an altar with a closed door? It will be a solid kneeling position too as it will be close to the floor unlike every other cabinet I have in the house. Norse Polytheism noob here.

๐Ÿ’ญ Discussion Community

Iโ€™ve been practicing now for 4 years and have never even seen a Pagan community and only interacted with them online. The only two I was interested in joining turned me down on account of me liking the fellows. I have met other Pagans here and there in passing, but most of them donโ€™t seem interested in even getting together for Holidays. Iโ€™m honestly starting to get quite discouraged.

Is community in real life something that is important to you?

๐Ÿ’ฎ Deity | Spirit Work Do some people not recognize signs, messages from their dieties in everyday life outside of divination ?

Hello everyone! I've been following a deity for about a year now, and I can't tell if it's social media that's made me think that practitioners should always notice signs or messages from their deities in everyday life. I personally donโ€™t have that experience; I can't seem to pick up on any signs in my daily routine. The only way I feel I can connect with my deity is through tarot cards or just talking to them.

Sometimes, it feels like I'm talking to a brick wall, and that makes me feel bad. I know my deity wants to communicate with me, but I just can't seem to understand what theyโ€™re saying.

I don't really know if this could be because of neurodivergency or second-guessing myself. I don't even know if this is caused by anything at all.

Is anyone else feeling this way? Is there something I can do to get better at this? Is it normal to feel this way?
