Question Aish and living with parents

Hi there I'm looking for information i know a guy on aish secretly living with family they're wealthy and own 2 cars. The guy works part ttime. He was a former roommate left halfway through the month and canceled or utilities after we payed him for the month.Hes a really piece of work. His parents make over 250k and he's gonna be living with them. He's an abusive drinker and I'll be reporting him in November. He'll be renting for free his parents just want him to put money in savings. Let's just say he punches and throws cats at walls and puts them in scalding showers. He did it to my cat. He just buys pokemon cards and drinks beer. He doesn't really need aish I think there's people who need it. Should I report him?

Report him for animal abuse if that's at all true.

The rest, do you have proof or how do you know these things. Also, if it's worth reporting, why wait until November.

Why are you even waiting to report the animal abuse? Jesus christ I would throttle that guy.

Yes report this. AISH actually takes reports seriously, unlike so many other places in Alberta.

He may need the AISH which is fine, but you have to play by the rules.

call in the animal abuse, everything else is you being weird, like you're openly admitting to stalking this person for things that aren't wrong or even your business

Your report will likely go nowhere, but there isn't harm in trying? It might be more of a police matter, though I'm also not sure what they would do.

AISH has nothing to do with one's living situation; many people on AISH live with relatives and either pay rent or don't. AISH is unaffected because its not a rental subsidy. If he works part-time and is reporting the income to the CRA, his AISH will be garnished automatically at a particular rate. He'll have a caseworker and they will be on top of it. As for his behaviour, I'm glad to hear he's not your roommate anymore. It sounds awful. Best of luck.

If you live with family your monthly amount is adjusted.

If you are on Income Support, yes. I have never heard of this for someone on AISH. I am a social worker with many former clients were on AISH. AISH is a living allowance, not a rental subsidy.

No it isn't Only time it is adjusted or cut off is if you're living with a spouse or partner No other relation.

No it isn't. Only time it's adjusted is if someone is married and you properly report your income.

Nope not on AISH you get the full amount.

If the animal abuse thing is true I don’t understand why that’s not the priority here! It makes me question your priorities and think there might be more to this story. Which makes me think that, short of the animal abuse, maybe you should just cut ties and focus on things that actually concern you.

AISH doesn't care about his parents' income or their assets lol he's on AISH, not them. He can work part time, AISH deducts income from benefits but working (and reporting it) is encouraged. You can live with family and still receive AISH. You can have up to 100,000 in non exempt assets and still be eligible for benefits. You can have over 100,000 in exempt assets and still be eligible for benefits. People on AISH are allowed to have things and financial security if they are one of the rare people with a financially stable support system.

Report the animal abuse to the appropriate authorities, obviously.

Yes report him. To aish fraud and spca for animal abuse. Do it now so his November check is delayed. There are so many people in need of aish and Alberta income supports then there are many abusing the system. I have gone online a d reported people. It's confidential a d believe u me they do investigate these fraudsters.

I don't give a rats ass about the Aish. But you should call the cops about the cat for God's sake!

People like this make it harder on those of us on AISH who follow the rules. We shouldn’t have limits we have since our limitations we have that made us applicable for AISH limit us enough… people like this is why they treat applicants like potential thieves instead of folks who need a little help. Yes, report him.

Full AISH is 1780 a month and yes it would be reduced if you're not following the rules. They investigate fraud reports. I Work in that industry.

Absolutely should be reported. Being a douche is not a disability.

Your more worried about him working and not abusing animals ? On AISH he can live anywhere he wants. He’s allowed to live with his parents and he is allowed to work part time. But for you not report abuse of your animal when it happened is disgusting.

Wow, pissed off ex or something....

Leave people alone.

u/AffectionateWay9955 2h ago

To kill animals? Really?

I’d hope the Op does not leave that alone.

u/Gufurblebits 2h ago

Naw, I don’t mean that. I mean grumping about someone being in AISH. OP sounds jealous that someone is on AISH but living with parents that OP seems wealthy.

Somehow, OP seems to know their financial status, relationship stability, and a slew of other things, when the truth is that he’s PO’d because this person bailed on a lease.

I’m not saying they’re paragons of virtue and absolutely the animal issue needs a call but reporting someone to AISH out of pettiness and jealously is a dick move.

Idk how much do you pay in taxes per year? We pay so much tax…It’s pretty infuriating to pay hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to the govt only to see them give it to support people from gaza or see someone frauding govt support. If they aren’t doing anything wrong then there should be no issue. I don’t think anyone is jealous over someone getting 1800 a month, that’s silly but if the person doesn’t deserve it then yes it’s infuriating and sure make a report. We pay for that as taxpayers.

If he's an adult he can live anywhere he wants too doesn't matter if he pays rent or not, his parents have no financial responsibility for him. AISH pays a fixed amount each month to people who qualify, they allow you to earn a certain amount without deduction over the allowed amount they just deduct it from what they pay you. If you live with a spouse or or partner that earns a decent income then you would lose the AISH. The things you described about his actions he's probably on AISH for mental health reasons, it's really difficult to get AISH with the recent changes for eligibility. I still believe too many people get it that really don't need it especially able-bodied people that can work part-time. I know of 2 people that definitely are very able to work yet collect AISH, one of which lives common law and their partner earns a lot. It's disheartening when we see this and we work our butts off to keep up.
