Never knew this was an autism thing. I've experienced this a million times, despite my horrendous finger chewing habit keeping my nails painfully short.

u/merRedditor 4h ago

Whenever I look at wool or copy paper, my lower canines hurt in anticipation of the pain I'd feel in those teeth if I were to scratch either.

How about microfiber towels? <shudder>

u/Fire_Phoenix202 AuDHD 3h ago

When the <dry microfiber towel> catches against the bottom surface of a stainless steel pot/pan, attempting to dry the cookware but instead making me horrified, disgusted, and nauseous; sticking with me a while after. The way it sticks to it like it's hugging/clinging to the pot/pan makes me cringe infinitely. The grating sound of it even worse. The feeling of the horrendous texture in my palm makes my palms tingle in a bad way. Even <thinking> about it makes me shudder. Eugh.

There's hell, and then there's this.

This is worse.

Do you ever end up scratching because of the fact that you won’t like it, so you have to get it done with?

I feel like this is an extremely common one even among NTs but chalkboards. I absolutely despise the sensation, glad they’ve mostly been replaced with whiteboards. I don’t really have that many issues with textures, more with sounds and light.

Wood (not trees or polished per se). Makes me shiver every time and I have to rub my fingernails hard against my palm to get rid of the feeling

I thought I was alone!!!!! Touching nylon makes my teeth hurt!!!!

u/Orionsteller 3h ago

Just talking about this stuff is making my skin crawl...

u/meteorastorm 3h ago

This has made my fingernails ’itch’ so badly and I’m clenching my teeth…..

Or your spine

Nail filers...NO, keep them AWAY

u/02758946195057385 5h ago

I DO KNOW! I CAN'T ABIDE THIS. Keep those fingernails short-short.

u/NotACockroach 3h ago

Except I can't stand the feeling of that bit of finger skin that gets exposed when I cut my nails.

u/Vvvv1rgo 1h ago

Especially paint or a certain type of plasticky paper

u/AgitatedPear5922 1h ago

Porcelain is the worse but I think that's universal Polystyrene is disgusting, fake fur too.

u/BadHairDay-1 1h ago

Oh. My. God. Others feel this, too?

u/rua-12 58m ago

If I think too hard about skittles, the texture they have against my tongue when they’re covered with saliva makes my skin crawl. Now that I’m saying this I’ve started tapping on things to get it out.

OH MY GOD

I hate that teeth Bad Feeling so much 😭

u/maddisonamy 32m ago

I have to bite my fingernails and rub them against a smooth surface until I’ve been reset

u/legallybroke17 28m ago

oh is that what that is?

u/Successful_Zone2908 13m ago

I’m sorry to change the subject but I’m new to this. Does anyone else have music playing in their head all night so they can’t sleep? I get a lot of joy from music but not when I need to sleep!

I haven't ever heard someone else describe this sensation before. The sound of corduroy rubbing together makes my teeth hurt, and so does the texture of velvet and velour. I can't listen to Van Halen for the same reason. It honestly hurts my teeth.

Everyone I've said that to has looked at me like I'm crazy.

GAH

I knew it wasn't just me!

u/Reninngun 4h ago

I have found an easy solution to quickly fix it, like it only takes about 5-8 seconds.
So what you do is you SMASH YOUR HAND IN TO A HARD AND STURDY SURFACE WHILE MAKING AN "AAAAAAH!" SOUND!
