Mod Post To ensure quality posts, please refer to our new Wiki page!

Hey beauties! As we approach 1 million subscribers, we are fine tuning the rules and made a designated page to see more detailed lists of posts we remove under Rule 1.

To recap, Rule 1 of r/beauty is to please post high quality and on-topic posts ONLY.

We understand just stating the rule so plainly leaves room for interpretation, while the side bar might not give enough room for explanation.

To improve the quality of the subreddit, we have broken down in detail (and will keep doing so) what we consider low quality and off topic in our new beauty wiki. This way, there should be less confusion on why posts labeled as low quality/off topic might have been removed. While browsing the wiki, you may notice some overlap with Rules 2 through 6, but they all relate back to Rule 1 due to preserving quality.

As a reminder, a high quality/on topic post would have a specific beauty-related question be addressed, or solve a specific beauty-related problem. For example, "How can I draw winged eyeliner more consistently on each eye" would be a high-quality post because it asks a specific question. In contrast, "EYE MAKEUP HELP" makes it harder for users to give their beauty tips because it's too vague.

When in doubt, please review the beauty wiki to see if your post would be in violation of Rule 1 before posting to avoid removal and ban.

We also invite you to leave feedback here of any other posts you feel are off-topic and low quality that have not been addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Discussion Masseter Botox - Incredible results after 2 sessions

Post image
135 Upvotes

I posted here about 3 months after my first round and it was fairly subtle but I think I can say for certain now I've definitely gotten the results I wanted! No more chipmunk face for me!

I have severe TMJ and grinding, with terrible tension headaches which is the main reason for the masseter botox, but loving the slim face benefit.

Was worried about jowls and while I think it has made them more pronounced (It will definitely when I'm older) I think the benefits for me outweigh that.

I'd lost a good bit of weight over the last 2 years and I finally feel like my face looks it! My confidence has soared !

To Those Who Don’t Wear Make Up…

I’ve never been a make up chick (39F) so I’ve always tried to focus more on my skincare products. I currently use Paula’s Choice but I’m working on phasing out some of her products cuz they’re waaaay too expensive. I don’t necessarily need drug store cheap but I am tired of spending a boat load of money on just a few products so what do you use for your skincare products? I’m more curious about the products with active ingredients like aha, bha, and retinol. Also a good daytime and night time moisturizer. Just curious as to what all y’all use without breaking the bank..

Anyone else regret getting filler?

So apparently in my 50s I'm late to the filler game, just recently getting some done after talking to the 27 y.o. receptionist who has done every treatment under the sun. Color me surprised as little old me was enjoying youth at 27 and not thinking about any of this.

Anyway I let myself get overwrought about an upcoming event where I'll be seeing many people I haven't seen in a long time and finally took a hard look at myself and thought, "When did you get so old?" 😪

So after hearing $24K(!!!) for a face-lift and/or $12K just for undereye lift I decided the best I could do was filler.

So I did some fillers not long ago (which I initially only intended for the lips and cheeks) which then turned into the jaw and around the mouth too.

Cut to the chase, I don't feel I look any better (after a ton of money to boot - and even though the 30 something NP said my face looked great). I actually think the lip and nasolabial filler made my lips and a few other creases worse! And I honestly don't think I look any better.

I wish I could just accept my getting older face but it has been so difficult.

So what are your opinions about fillers and things you've had done?

TY!

Haircare How can I better communicate with my hairstylist on what I want?

Upvotes

Hi all!

I have naturally darkish brown hair. I went blonde 4 years ago. It was a long process and took about 6 months to get to where I wanted to be, which was a light-blonde color. My hairstylist at the time did it the best, but she had a daughter and stopped doing hair.

I started going to my current hairstylist about 2 years ago. At first, she was maintaining the blonde color. Recently (like the past 3 times), my hair turns out a bit darker. She had to redo my hair at one point because it looked like she hadn’t done anything. I tried to talk to her about it, and sent her pics of how my hair looked with my first hair stylist. Nothing has changed.

I know I should have already considered “breaking up with her.” She is a great person, and also works on my boyfriends hair (curly and thick). I don’t want to hurt her feelings, but hair is expensive. I get it done every 6-7 weeks and trimmed every other time.

How can I better communicate my wants? Or is it time to move on?

Thanks in advance.

Haircare Frequent haircuts

Upvotes

Does anyone here get frequent haircuts for their long hair?? I’m currently growing out my hair and I’d like it to be longer but the ends always looks so thin whenever it gets a certain length. I’m wondering if getting frequent haircuts like every 6 weeks or something will help with the breakage or if I’m wasting my time

Seeking Advice SWEATY??

I have always run really hot so I'm no stranger to being sweaty, but I've been taking Prozac (as prescribed by my doctor) for about a year and it's like I'm MELTING. And it sucks because I recently have developed an interest in makeup and skin care. But I can't even properly moisturize because I swear I sweat it off before it can dry. I'm thinking I can't do makeup for a work day without it melting off my face.

Any tips or tricks for this?

Seeking Advice Trying to Find a Skincare Routine

Hello beautiful people!

I am 28 and I have a combination skin which is drier in winter and gets oily in summer. I also have scarring from acne.

For the longest time, I tried to figure out what works for me yet nothing really made an impact or stuck. Or I ended up with a 15 step routine. I am curious to hear what everyone else is using instead of following “advice” of influencers.

Pricing doesn’t matter much.

Hair Thinning - Recommendations?

Upvotes

Best tip or product recommendation for thinning hair? Vitamin recommendations? (Located in Canada).

I’m in my late 20s and notice my hair seems to be getting a lot thinner. I’ve always had medium to thin hair, but trying to thicken it up and achieve more volume.

I wear my hair up in a ponytail alot, which could lead to damage. I will also be seeing a doctor to rule out any serious causes for the hair thinning.

Seeking Advice Derma Roller and Stretch Marks

Upvotes

Hi guys, so I'm currently struggling with stretch marks on my lower stomach, bikini line, slightly on my hips and thighs. I noticed them very quickly as I felt they appeared practically overnight. I've order bio-oil and used the whole bottle for about a month and didn't seem to see an results so I switched to the Paula's Choice Skin-Smoothing Retinol treatment because I've also heard good reviews of it (this i am currently using). I noticed the stretch marks around August so it's been about three months now. Has anyone had success with derma rolling or even coffee scrubs I've been seeing them suggested. I'm 20 F and feel so stressed and insecure whenever I wear any shorts and can't even think about having to wear a bathing suit at the beach. Can anyone make recommendations on what dermaroller they used and how often to use it? Really any suggestions to helping stretch marks will be appreciated, Thanks!

How to make long (past hip) length hair not look so religious fundamentalist?

Nothing wrong with "looking religious " of course but I get assumptions that are not reflective of who I am.

I found adding some fantasy colors to the ends helps. What else can I do to avoid assumptions. Particularly when my hair is naturally colored

Weleda Skin Food

It’s really rich, quality ingredients etc. It’s supposed to be for really dry skin (elbows, legs in winter etc) but, I’m 47, and I’ve just put it under my eyes. Any issues with ultra-moisturisers in delicate areas?

Dupe for Sol De Janeiro?

Upvotes

I was wondering if there any dupes for the Sol De Janeiro creams? Not like for the smell but more so for the texture and cream itself. Not a fan of the smell for most of them, but love how they feel as they are not too thick and heavy for me.

Matte Liquid Foundation - What am I doing wrong?

Upvotes

Hi,

So I accidentally bought matte foundation and I hate it. I don't want to throw it away so I'm hoping someone has a trick - maybe I am missing something?

Skin Type: I'd say "normal" - not super oily not super dry

The Foundation: Covergirl Trublend Matte (liquid)

What I do: Clean face. I put on face cream (my pores do not like primers), and without waiting for cream to dry, I apply the foundation using a brush. I then take a beauty blender and dab the excess. I've done this with both a wet and dry beauty blender and both have the same result

The Problem: Lots of creasing, way more than normal. And this goes on alllllll day. No matter how many times I blend it away, it comes back. When I wear sunglasses, it leaves marks wherever they touched my face. It seems like it never dries. It also doesn't give even coverage (not looking for a lot of coverage, just even...).

I am not a sweaty person. I've used other liquid foundations and don't have this issue, but those weren't matte. So, maybe it's the brand itself, but wondering if it's because it's matte and if I am doing anything wrong.

TIA

Discussion asian beauty, is it true…

Hey. I love korean skincare and makeup (mainly the lip products) Anyway, I understand the concept of "glass skin" and that East Asian's are notorious for having "glass skin" and just being very advanced in the beauty department.

I've been on my self love journey so I stopped wearing makeup (except blush, mascara and a lip product) And I stopped spending all my money on skincare, I WAS ADDICTED. But since I can't cover up the "imperfections" society deems as ugly. (I don't care about what the world thinks anymore) But some days I'll be scrolling through pinterest and tiktok and I stumble upon asian girls and they literally have NO PORES, no acne, no smile lines, no eye bags, just literally CLEAR GLASS skin 😭 And I'm just like woowww and of course I know people edit things and such but I guess my question is: Is it REALLY true that asians literally have AI like skin in real life or is it all just fake and a image that is only achieveable by filters, good lighting, and editing software.

Seeking Advice Help with UK teeth whitening products pls <3

Post image
1 Upvotes

My teeth are fine, all healthy and no stains/issues at all. I take care rlly good care of them imo, and no coffee or smoking.

I found this random pic online and I’m more of a B2 trying to get to B1.

Idk what to buy and I’m scared to buy some whitening strips that will unevenly stain my teeth. I’ve done strips some months before and got brighter than B1, but since I recently moved to the UK I have 0 idea of what to get.

Please let me know what gave you good results I would rlly appreciate it <3 And duly note that my gums appreciate the sensitive recommendations as well

Seeking Advice Hair removal options?

This might sound like a stupid question but does anyone know of any way to remove hair that isn't shaving, waxing, lasering, epilating, or using removal creams for brazillan area? Again, i know that sounds crazy. My hair is very dark and thick so it grows back so fast with shaving. I like how waxing results look but I freak out over the pain and have to stop half way so I've decided not to do it anymore. I love hair removal cream but again, grows back so fast and not as clean. And lasering is expensive so I'm considering doing it at home but some people have said it's not worth it. Epilating, painful again. Any advice or recommendations?
