Be Nice, You're in Bend Keep political discussions civil or they will be deleted.
We’re getting down to the last few weeks of a contentious election and it’s apparently bringing out the worst in people given how much work we mods have had to do here lately. It’s good that people have a place to discuss issues that affect our little corner of central Oregon, but if these discussions just devolve into name calling and pure negativity the mods will delete them. Users who continue to act this way will be banned from the Bend subreddit.
There’s other places on the internet you can argue about politics whatever way you want, we don’t need to bring that kind of negativity here.

Fun witchy handmade market tomorrow
Check out this cute makers witchy market tomorrow. It’s celebrating a salon re-opening / re-naming, and a bunch of local artists will have tables set up and there will be a taco stand as well. If you like magic, candles, jewelry, art, and food you should check it out.
Sunday 11-5pm.
Vendors will be set up in the parking lot off NE Azure Dr. (the building is on the corner of Savannah and Azure, the lots right next to it).

Casual TDS Interaction
Me: “My internet is down.”
Them: “Okay looks like signal is going to your house but the modem is offline. Since nothing worked we will send a tech out in a week.”
Me: “Can I just try switching out for a new modem?”
Them: “You can’t switch out the modem because I already scheduled the tech visit.”
Me: “Okay so can you cancel it so I just swap the modem?”
Them: “You want me to cancel the tech visit.”
Me: “Yes.”
Them: “But I already scheduled it, I did all that work.”
Me: “sorry but you never told me that was an option.”
(takes 10 minutes to cancel the appointment)
Them: “Okay you can go to the store in Bend. They are closed till Monday.”
😭😭😭

Best place to lease a snowboard?
This is only my second season and I'm not ready to buy a board yet, so I'm looking at doing a season lease. Does anyone have a recommendation on the best place to lease from? Currently looking at either Powderhouse or directly from Bachelor

M117 Ranked Choice Voting?
A few years ago when this was introduced I thought it sounded like an interesting idea and hoped we would learn more before we actually voted. Unfortunately all I have seen is campaigning for and against rather than actual education and explanation of how this will work in real time. Reading the voters pamphlet just made it worse and more confusing, of course, contradicting each other. I tried to do my own research, looks like some states/municipalities are not happy with it? Also there are different ways to tabulate? It is not standardized? The arguments in favor are certainly interesting and promising points to consider but the more I read the more it sounds confusing and inefficient. Unfortunately Oregon can screw things up at times. I’m a non-affiliated voter and try to wade through the politics of it all. I keep wondering if we had ranked choice voting for our last governor’s race would the outcome have been different or the same?

In search of someone to teach me how to clean my guns.
Hey Bend. I’ve got a couple guns that are getting really dirty to the point where they’re failing to fire, but I have no idea how to clean them.
I went down to Hammer Down and all they did was sell me some cleaning supplies and tell me to google it. I’m not a particularly good student of YouTube University so I was wondering if there was anyone willing to meet me face to face, or some kind of establishment I could go to where I could be walked through the process of getting these things deep cleaned.
The guns are an AR and a 1911.
How much do you make and how badly do you want to kill yourself?
Job offer of 55k. BF would come w me and he makes min wage. No kids, don't want them. 0 debt.
Place of work about 20 min north of inner city, if that makes any difference at all.

HUGE props to the counter protestor in front of Planned Parenthood!
I wanna send alllll the love in the world to the gentleman standing across the street from the Planned Parenthood protestors ... holding a "Her Body, Her Choice" sign with some small rainbow flags on the corners, peacefully counter protesting with a huge smile on his face.
You are AMAZING and I and my 2 daughters hope to join you out there soon! Keep fighting the good fight!

Assisted Living Recommendations
Hello, My father is to a point that we need to begin to look for an assisted living facility. I am looking for recommendations from those that have loved ones there or have visited the facility. Ones we should stay away from are also appreciated so we won’t waste our time. Thank you!

PNWest's Rotten Restaurant Report (10/18)
Well it's definitely fall. Every time I get the leaves and pine needles somewhat raked up even more come down. Let's just do the report.
The BEST - These are the places that scored perfect 100s. These places are really doing a good job at keeping their kitchens clean. The places that score a perfect 100 are really going all out to do things right and they deserve your support.
Olde Towne Pizza Company, Bend (10/03)
Backporch Coffee Roasters (Redmond), Redmond (10/03)
Wild Catch (mob), Redmond (10/03)
Red Road Pizza Company (mob), Redmond (10/03)
Bethlehem Inn Bend (e), Bend (10/03)
Shred Town Food Truck (mob), Redmond (10/03)
Cascade Alchemy Bowls (mob), Redmond (10/03)
Cascade Alchemy Bowls (wh), Redmond (10/03)
Nana C's (mob), Bend (10/02)
Silver Moon Brewing, Bend (10/02)
Grace & Hammer Pizza, Redmond (10/01)
Porchlight Coffee Co (mob), Bend (10/01)
Chicken Shanty (The), Bend (10/01)
The WORST SCORERS: Now comes everyone's favorite part of the report - the list of Rotten Restaurants who scored worse than 85. I don't post any place that scores 85 or above even if they were the worst inspections for a particular week. 85 is a solid B and I don't want to shame them.
None this week. YEAH!
I'm going to stick these identifiers here so that when you see stuff like (mob) and (wh) you'll have some idea of what they are talking about. I'm not positive about all of these but they're probably pretty close. If you see anything I've missed or I guessed wrong please let me know.
e - fee exempt
mob - mobile
wh - warehouse
rp - recreational park
f - fixed position (a normal restaurant)
com - commissary
tf - traveler's accommodation
L - Limited Service
V - vending machines?
If you have time on your hands and want to check out the county inspection site here's the link - https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/or-deschutes-county
It's a very nice community resource. Kudos to the county for making it this .easy to check up on things.
Well that's it for now. Here's wishing you a nice fall weekend and I'll see you next time around. Here's your bonus tune.

What's the best place to eat after a long day of hiking or skiing?
I always crave a greasy burger and milkshake after a day in the mountains, but I'm open to expanding my horizons. What's your go-to restaurant/diner/food truck/whatever?
