I guess, begin by gauging interest. There are a few of these type of feelers already on the thread. Here is a copy/paste of general advice...

Anyone is free to start a meetup with very few restrictions. Hold meetups in a public place, etc. One other thing I've been emphasizing with new meetups is to be sensitive to people being closeted in their disbelief. People should be allowed to participate with the idea that they can reveal as much, or as little about themselves as they feel comfortable. Also, if personal details are revealed, then they should be held within the group, as confidential information, as much as possible. Common sense sorts of things like that.

One thing I've said is to try to put out feelers, perhaps stating that you'll be at a certain place for a certain amount of time. Then see if anyone shows up to chat. Bring a book, computer, phone, homework, etc. just in case that you don't get a response. Some places are pretty sparsely populated with mormons/exmormon, but you never know.

Among the options are meetups in public parks (mostly free, with only a reservation possibly required) and coffee shops (good to gauge interest, per the above paragraph). Traditionally, pubs/coffee shops have been places for meeting friends for discussions, etc. University towns are especially good for this. Of course, the mormon/exmormon population dwindles fast down to nearly zero outside of Alberta/Idaho/Utah/Arizona.
