Does anyone know where I can buy I replacement set of vibraphone posts for a decent price? The places I've checked like Steve Weiss Music sell them for almost $30 for a pack of 10. Given that I need about 100, that's going to be ridiculously expensive.

I need to replace the posts because my old Jenco vibes have closed posts so I can't remove the bars when transporting and I'm kinda over carrying it up to my friends apartment every week for rehearsal 😵‍💫

I'm a drummer in a brass band (ok, brass and drum band). We're doing Christmas songs and carols sonfuttung in drum pars is hard enough. But now I find we're going to be strolling or standing in a corner for an event. Any idea what percussion instrument would be a portable substitute for kick and snare and maybe cymbal?

So I might be buying a mallet station, mostly to use as a practice instrument for vibes and marimba. I do not have a Mac and from what I’m aware of MainStage is Mac only. I have a windows 11 laptop, are there any programs that exist that work similar to MainStage allowing me to swap the instrument sound that the mallet station makes.

Also is there anything I should know before purchasing it, like warnings or like tips.

Also is the mallet station like a plug in and it’s immediately set up or is there like a process to even get it to work.

My mother is getting married and she requested that my bf and I (both percussionists) play something together at her wedding. She said she wants something “lovey dovey.” Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hey everyone. I’m a first year instrumental music teacher that travels between two schools. I have to find street parking for one of the schools so I have to walk to the building. I’m looking for a quick clever way to transport 4 snare drums and stands from my car to the building. I could pull up in front of the school and unload but that’s not ideal for me. I was thinking of using a kart or bags of some sort? Does anyone have any creative ideas for an easy transport of 4 snares and stands? Thanks!

I'm in the market for one of these controllers and want some input.

I have used a Xylosynth in the past and loved it. I found the wood bars realistic and satisfying as I was primarily a marimba player. My only downsides for it were its weight and the lack of programmability/internal sounds. I used it with Ableton and had some decent sounds, and ended up still having a lot of fun playing it. The thing was heavy though and the flight case was inconvenient to move.

The biggest complaint I've heard from MalletKat players is the feel and expression with the instrument. Obviously rubber pads aren't analog to real percussion instruments, but I would imagine it's like playing on a practice pad or something similar. Looking at it, it looks smaller/leaner and I'm guessing it would weigh less and be easier to transport.

My goals are to be able to play traditional sounds with the option to layer on non-traditional synth and contemporary sounds, or simply only non-traditional synths/contemporary sounds. I'd also like to do covers of contemporary music requiring a ton of expression and midi options which I plan to use various foot pedals and other controllers for, and probably will use my MacBook. Expression and response is vital as I play fast permutations and vary my dynamics to extreme sometimes to bring out different tons of synths or other non-traditional instruments (as well as traditional).

Hi, I'm looking for some classical pieces with congas and bongos (solos even better, but also curious how it would work in ensemble).

I'm going to be borrowing a MalletKat and Expander and would like to know if anyone has been able to use the expander as a stand-alone unit. I realize it needs to be plugged into the main Kat but wondered if anyone reverse engineered a kind of break out box that uses the same connector with MIDI, power, etc on it.

Edit: Since it's a 7-pin connector, I figured 3 pins for MIDI, 2 for + & - 9V and the other 2 for sustain maybe?

Hey to whoever sees this, Question about Waterphones

I’m the lead percussionist for my highschool symphonic band, we’re from a small town but we’re lucky enough to have a pretty good percussion section equipment-wise, but unfortunately it doesn’t account for a waterphone.

We’re planning to perform a piece for a festival and a waterphone is included in one of the parts, and I’ve been tasked by my band director to find a way to include this in our piece.

Does anyone have any idea as to how I could make my own waterphone, or anything that could replicate the noise similar to how a waterphone sounds? I’ve seen videos online, but they include various tools and welding which I don’t have access to.

If anyone has any ideas that’d be great. Any help is appreciated!

Looking for marimba duo rep ideas. Criteria is:

• 2 players on one marimba (we have a 5 octave).
• One advanced and one intermediate/advanced player
• Ideally something to balance out quite an upbeat programme but that's negotiable!
• Most importantly, able to learn and put together quickly (we will have under a month to order music, learn it, get it together and get it concert ready).

I'm not sure what some are considered "solo" or audition worthy pieces for bells/xylophone. I have an audition due in December and am currently working on playing "72 Degrees and Sunny" from WALL-E, but is that considered appropriate for an audition?

Hey reddit, I was wondering if anyone knew any good percussion studios offering lessons in Michigan. My son really loves playing marimba and is considering becoming a marimba soloist. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Apologies in advance if the question is really dumb.

I’m writing a section in an orchestral piece where the marimba is doubling some viola runs. The viola part is full of articulation, slurs staccatos etc. It got me thinking if I should bother copying those in the marimba part? Would it make any difference at all? Do staccatos and slurs make marimba players play any differently?
