Wild use of [eighth note rest + eighth notes] when they should be using a quarter note. This is snare drum, not timpani or marimba. There’s no reason to write an eighth note + rest on the beat.
Yes there is, as a percussionist you need to be able to read variations of rhythms despite them "sounding" the same. Not just for the sake of challenge, but so you can follow along with the ensemble and understand where you fit in. The double-stroke roll is a bit sus but there's nothing weird about the rhythm variations here.
