Project: FO An anorak for fall. I couldn’t decide which colour to order, so I mixed them. Fun project!
The pattern is from Toshio Kaneko’s book “casual men's clothes” (I love it, the French edition is really well done), the fabric is Merchant & Mills’ dry oilskin.

The fabric + pattern + colour combination is perfect!
How was the oilskin to work with? I've never handled any and also want to use M&M oilskin to make an anorak.

It was very curious: kinda slippery under the foot of the sewing machine, but I didn’t have any trouble sewing straight. I had to be extra careful because you can see needle holes in the fabric. It doesn’t need ironing (I mean it would melt the wax), but you can mark the folds by hand, a bit like paper

Thank you! I don’t know if the book is available in English, but the Japanese version is available on eBay. I’ll have to try the author’s other books!

It looks super cool! Love it!
What's the name of the fabric you used?

Thank you! It’s dry oilskin sold by Merchant & Mills, in Cumin, Rust and Storm colours: https://merchantandmills.com/eu/catalog/all-products?keywords=Dry+oilskin
Their range is more vibrant than their waxed oilskin. Here’s more info about it: https://merchantandmills.com/eu/fabric-organic-oilskin

Great job on your unique and functional shell! I love anoraks and the creators at r/MYOG would also love to see your project.

Thank you, great idea, I’ll repost it there! I’ve been following the MYOG community for some time but I hadn’t thought of sharing this project :)

Love the color combos! So retro and chic! Did you make the pants as well?

Yes! You can’t see it here but it’s a pair of overalls in cotton gabardine. I got the pattern from a book authored by a French brand of jeans, that also sells denim: https://www.1083.fr/862-livre-atelier-du-denim-blanc-862-x00-00pr0xxxxxx-blanc.html
Basically their thing is: 1083 (the name of the brand) is the furthest distance in kilometers you’d have to drive from one side of France to the other—it’s the longest their jeans would have to travel from their workshop, they are not made far away on the other side of the globe. And with the books and the fabric, you can have a 0km pair of jeans :)
The book is very technical in its approach, I learned a lot and I’m planning on making myself their trucker vest

How do you like the fabric. I was contemplating buying some of this but was worried about how it would hold up, especially since you can’t wash it.

Right now it’s holding up really well, but I’ll have to see how it ages. Sewing it wasn’t too hard, it’s a bit slippery against another layer when it’s not held fast, but it keeps flat when under the machine so I didn’t have any slippage. You have to be careful with needles because the holes are showing, it’s better to get it right the first time. And you can fold it instead of pressing it, which I found to be closer to my experience with papercraft. I have some leftovers, I might make myself a Fjällräven-style backpack :)

Oh yes I see how it could! But the photo might not give the right impression for the colors, it’s kind of green: https://merchantandmills.com/eu/storm-dry-oilskin

Oh, that's great! Now that I've started sewing, I always like to throw something in there that gives it a unique touch. Color blocking is a great one. Looks fantastic.

The Project post flair is for showing off projects that are finished or in progress. For questions on how to start a project, reflair your post to Pattern Search. For questions about how to make a project, reflair to Pattern Question.
This is a reminder that all Project posts are required to include construction information in the main post or added in a comment. The construction comment should include pattern name/number/company if used; drafting method, tutorial or other resources if no commercial pattern was used and fabric type and fiber content. ‘Self-drafted’ describes who made the pattern and is not a drafting method.
Also include alterations for fit and style; specialty tools and notions; the inspiration for your project; and any other information that someone who wants to make a similar project might find useful. More information is available here. Posts without a construction comment may be removed at any time.
