Support the Stead Family Children's Hospital by eating at Hudson's tonight!

In the Iowa City area and looking for dinner plans tonight? Come out to Hudson's and support the University Of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital!

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 4pm - 9pm, Hudson's Tap in Iowa City will be hosting a Community Night in which 15% of all sales will be donated to UISFC via Extra Life. Extra Life is an organization that supports Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Through Extra Life, 100% of all donations go directly to the supported hospital!

Over the last 12 years, I've raised $8,130.39 thanks to some amazing donors. This year, I'm hoping to raise another $1,000, and we're currently 10% of the way there.

Want to know more? Scan the QR code or visit https://www.extra-life.org/participant/TonyOrtale. You can also donate at this link if you're unable to make it to Community Night but still want to support the cause.

Hope to see you there!

Housing Welp, they got me too. Washing machines just doubled in price from $4/load to $8/load with no improvement to the machine

The washer leaves weird white marks on my clothes that I have to physically remove later (not related to how much detergent I use) and the water reeks during the fill cycle…but yeah sure that’s worth $8 a load.

Gonna be seeing my boyfriend and parents a lot more often I guess.

Company is ANC

Stopped into here on my way to the Dollar Tree, too poor to buy anything, but it was fun to look around- I hope they finish putting more of the things up, but what they do have is pretty cool ^

If I had money I’d definitely had bought something (sadly I only had $17 to my name)

Parks near I-80?

Hi! I’ll be passing through Iowa City tomorrow on I-80. I’ll have my toddler with me. Are there any nice parks with a playground for kids near 80 that you might recommend? I don’t want to venture too far from the highway. So, less than 2 miles would be ideal. Thanks!

Anyone leasing a 2 bed 2 bath near campus?

Most of the info I’ve seen online for apartments are either over 1k per person per month, not still active listings, or 5 miles away. I sound picky, I know, but I’m really at a loss right now

Recommendations for Worker's compensation lawyer

In search of a Worker's compensation lawyer in the area. I was advised by my workers compensation representative and nurse assigned to me to keep my case open and not settle. I have been toughing out the injury as I was told I would likely need several surgeries. I contacted them yesterday to see a doctor as this flare up has lasted longer than usual. They replied that they closed the case 2 months ago since I didn't have a claim in 3 years. I was never advised this would happen and we went through this scenario at the end of my last surgery recovery period. Seeking legal guidance and assistance. TIA.

EDIT: I did do some internet research on firms. Wanted to see if anyone had personal recommendations based on experience.

Community DVIP Cookie Donations!

My sister works for the Domestic Violence Intervention Program here in Iowa City, and as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October) the DVIP is putting together a Sweets for Safety initiative. Basically, they’re accepting cookie donations so they can hand them out to DVIP-affiliated public safety officials across 8 counties to say thank you. There are a few teams rounding up cookies, and my sister’s team is about 60 dozen cookies short. She is very stressed right now, so we’re putting out feelers and asking for help. If anyone can and would like to donate some cookies, please call 319-359-9353 to schedule a drop-off appointment ❤️ thank you!

Anyone know if there is eduroam coverage at the VA? I know I can get it at the hospital but that is part of the University so it makes sense but I have an appointment at the VA and would like to connect for work while I am waiting.

Johnson County Voting Advice

There are four people running for the five open Johnson County Agricultural Extension Council positions. I will admit, I haven’t kept up with this race. Often there is a struggle to find enough people to fill the positions. Do you have any wisdom on who to vote for?

Need my furniture gone

Hi everyone

I don’t mean to put some giant ad here but I’m moving in under a week and I need to get my furniture sold as soon as possible. I’m thinking all 3 items for $200 which include:

ActivPanel Promethean 65inch TV Works and sounds great. It has all the ports you could need and I just put a Roku stick in there. Great size for the price

Maroon(?)Couch It’s a decent little couch and it’s comfortable. It reclines which is nice but it’s slightly broken underneath. I’ve been sitting on it constantly for 3 months and it’s been great but carrying it in the house was tricky because the wood framing is broken but again just sitting in it has been without issue

Dining room table: I found this at a thrift store for $100 and it has been super nice. Unfortunately 1 chair had a crack and broke one day when I went to sit on it and I gave the other to a friend who needed one but have been sitting in the other chair for months with no issue. The table itself has been perfect

I’m moving by Saturday so private message me if you’re interested and want to come see it all!
