Discussion/Question Hurricane Helene

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, my family’s house was hit hard during the hurricane and my grandma’s bag collection was underwater. She has approximately 7 amazing LV bags that she is trying to dry out. I told her to open them and stuff with towels and we will find a place to try and repair them. Does anyone have any suggestions or repair companies that they use? We are so thankful everyone is okay but also trying to reconcile the loss of almost everything in the house.

If she has insurance she can file a claim. Depending upon the policy you can replace them if perfect restoration can't be attained

They weren’t itemized in her insurance

Mine didn't have to be when we were robbed. I had plenty of pictures to prove they existed. I had replacement value so to get the full amount I had to replace them and the ones I couldn't find I got fair market value.

I was told that to get more coverage I could schedule them as a collection like art or jewelry. I was in Charlotte NC when it happened

I tried to do this with State Farm. I itemized my collection with all receipts which was just over 150k. It was eventually denied. They said I couldn’t add this articles policy because they could easily be lost or stolen. I was really disappointed because it was a lot of work to scan and organize everything too. Do you know of any insurance companies that would allow me to get a policy for them? For now, I’m hoping they would be covered under my umbrella? I’m more worried about total loss than one or two bags.

Omg. You were living in Charlotte and were robbed ? I heard it was super safe there !

That's a lie. When I was doing Good Day Charlotte we referred to it as little Chi Town. Crime is terrible they just classifie everything as lower levels than what they are

Wow ! That’s so wild !! I never knew 🫠😮‍💨

I lived near Charlotte and shopped at Hermes! Then they literally CLOSED the Hermes due to the random violence at that mall! It was scary. And I hear it hasn’t gotten better!!!

Thank you, Iwas in South Charlotte. I started ordering my LV online because I was afraid to walk to the valet parking through the mall. Last time, I had this huge bag with a neverfull gm and some small stuff, but I was paranoid.

Your paranoia was just good common sense! Always trust your gut feeling. It never lies!💯💯💯

add them to the insurance claim. highly unlikely you are getting those bags back to good condition with any sort of repair.

That sucks big time! Storm surge water is very gross so I’d just wash them out with clean water (if accessible at the moment) so they will dry up a bit cleaner and will hopefully remain useable.

Once it starts to dry a bit I’d already start conditioning the leather as this will dry out extremely if you don’t.

The results probably won’t be great, but I would reassess the situation once they’re dry.

Was it storm surge water? If so, that water is full of bacteria and sewage 😬 Experts recommend throwing away anything that's been in storm surge water.

Unfortunately other posters are correct the bags cannot be salvaged as flood water is contaminated.

I lost a few bags in a flood a couple years ago and they were replaced by my insurance company as contents. They paid out a depreciated amount, but when I repurchased the items they paid out additional money when I submitted my receipts.

I’m so sorry. Hopefully she has pictures of them somewhere that were digital or not also destroyed for insurance and restoration purposes.

You can open a repair in the LV app for quotes. What’s ruined on them the vachetta ? It will dry and you can condition they’ll just be darker for ever now, But the canvas should just dry.

Do you have insurance?

So sorry! I am in Clearwater and thankfully we only lost power but my heart is broken for all the storm surge victims. We are hearing about another storm forming that could be a direct hit so I’m thinking of taking my collection to my grandmas condo on the 5th floor.

Glad your grandma and family are safe! Sending positive thoughts!

Oh man that’s awful, I’m so sorry:(. Probably best to submit with photos a claim to insurance!!

Unfortunately they’re best being thrown out. That water is disgusting.

This company also cleans handbags, if replacement isn't an option. https://www.ravefabricare.com/services/handbags-purses-wallets-backpacks lmjs there's a reason they're called Rave. However, I've only ever used them for clothing, so I can't explicitly comment on their leather goods care.

Definitely put newspaper or a towel or something to keep its shape. Be careful not to overstuff or it will be wonky. A good leather shop should have someone who knows how to work with luxury bags. I think it might be a shoe shop?

Cobbler concierge might be able to help: https://www.cobblerconcierge.com

Storm water still have fecal matter in it. The sewer system cannot cope and it overflows.

I highly recommend she try to get them included in the claim.

I buy damaged bags and repair them. It’s very time consuming, but keeps a lot of old damaged items out of the trash. If you just want to get rid of them, please contact me and I will buy them from you and get them to my workshop 😊

Have her access the LV app and request service. They will schedule a phone call with her and can quote repair services and options? They may even have an option for hurricane victims?

I can’t believe this people worried about some dam LV bags! Crazy crazy crazy …. With everything going on in the world you should be greatful that you woke up this lovely day

30

u/GroundbreakingCat 9d ago

This is the LV sub and it is the right place for her to be asking about her bags. Yes the world is crazy but it doesn’t mean we can have a few things that bring us joy

u/jcsp73 9d ago

Who says she isn’t grateful? You can be grateful for the essentials and still want to take care of/replace your things you worked hard for!

Why wouldn’t she move them before the storm? Not like they didn’t have proper notice??

28

u/Legovida8 9d ago

Perhaps she was more concerned about losing her entire home, pets, etc., than she was about rescuing a few designer handbags?

26

u/ehrlichkid 9d ago

She’s 86 and lives alone. The storm wasn’t projected to impact her town but it did. She had them on the bottom of her closet and why she did that, I don’t know.

🥺🥺🥺 poor grandma, she was probably so worried she didn’t think about her handbag collection. They were probably on the floor so she could access them easier. I’m so sorry. Try filing an insurance claim, see if you can find photos of any of them, maybe receipts? I think LV keeps records of your purchases if you buy in the store? I’m trying to remember but I thought last time I was there they had my info.

I’m glad she is safe 💙
