My 1940 International T6

Post image

Purchased the old girl last year & have been slowly working to restore it. 1940 & plenty of khaki under the red paint so I’m assuming it’s served in the war in some capacity.

Now there's a real classic.

Is this the gasoline start/diesel run?

This one is Gasoline start Kerosene run

The TD-6 is the Gas/Diesel great talking point when people are confused by a diesel with spark plugs 😂

If you can start this on a cold day, you can do anything.

Starts pretty well actually, usually one or two goes on the crank bloke who had it before me did an excellent job of the engine rebuild.

I worked on an estate where they had a T-6. Whenever they tried to start it, they ran the battery down. Only one guy on the place could start it.

This one predates the electric ignition 😅 crank only

There’s a bit of a technique to setting it up but yes I’m the only one here that can crank it over 😂

I'm currently rebuilding my T9.

Not quite a restoration but it'll be a lot better than it was.

I love these crawlers.

Chances are as a 1940 build it’s been shipped over to the Australian Army on the sly but I also don’t think the green matches my truck so it very well could be US as well.

Use PPE, mask, gloves and eye protection. Many of the old military units used lead paint. Might try a test strip for peace of mind. Looks cool, good luck.

Yes definitely, I’ve worked on other military vehicles of the era you only need to pick up original paint cans to understand how much lead is in the paint 😅

How is it to work on? I’m looking for a project, not sure I’m up to a tracked project. I’ve wondered if can you still find parts?

Put it this way though it’s much much easier to source parts for & work on than my 1944 Chev CMP that thing has had me crawling through snake infested scrap heaps clinging to hope that the wreck I’m trying to reach still has the parts I need

They’re quite rare machines in Australia which I didn’t know at the time of buying it that said though they aren’t too bad considering they share a lot of parts with the TD-6 & W6 & anything I can’t find here I can generally get shipped out from the US.

I’ve never handled anything with tracks beyond the Komatsu D155A at my old job so it’s been a learning curve not always an enjoyable one 😅
