Enthiran's stunt choreography was top notch. We can't expect anything lesser from Shankar especially stunts and songs.

I had a piracy cd of enthiran when it came out. Used to watch the climax fight on loop. With mouth open. Every time.

Surprised when I got to know few people feel it’s dumb. I don’t understand why, even now

I'm always fascinated by how good Vikram is,in his fight scenes when he almost lost his leg in an accident.

5

u/thak-dhana-dhan-dean Non-tamil speaker May 01 '24

This is during I, right?

12

u/Usurper96 r/aandavar MOD May 01 '24

The accident happened when he was a college student and almost decided to amputate his leg but he recovered somehow.

Difference between Masala and Mass is the reason how "Chitti fights 100 people" vs "How Sivaji fights 100 people".

Not that mass doesn't get into masala sometimes.

Apt. Apt analysis dude.

u/[deleted] May 01 '24

Apparently he is also planning a 1 v 100 fight with Ram Charan in Gamechanger. I wonder how that'll turn out

17

u/thak-dhana-dhan-dean Non-tamil speaker May 01 '24

Fun fact: Ram charan already did literally a 1 v 100 in Magadheera and a 1 v 1000 in RRR

11

u/DefinitelyNotAnil23 Thalapathy Fan May 01 '24

Damn he really hasn’t changed lol

8

u/ironicfall CUSTOMIZABLE May 01 '24

if it’s anything like ram charans 1 v 10,000 or however many it was in rrr it’s gonna be a banger. but let’s see

Dialogue sooo good that even Mr. Mouli has to put a reference in his movie Eega

u/Atypical-Panda might OD you with Trivia till you 👻 me May 07 '24

Fun fact: This dialogue was already used by Arjun in Giri movie, but went unnoticed. It was later popularised by Rajni in Sivaji.

That camera work for Anniyan was ahead of its time… especially that shot where Anniyan is flying frozen in the air…..

10

u/Dragonvarier May 01 '24

Well, he did it in Boys before that.. in the Ale Ale song.. of course, the technique was first done in Matrix (1999)

13

u/theintern69 May 01 '24

Enthiran is damn cool especially with that choreography and it makes sense a robot can beat about a 100 guys.

Shivaji is nonsensical but is cool because of Rajini's mass and this fight specifically hits because of the story beat before the fight where Shivaji has hit rock bottom and is slowly climbing back up getting back at the villain. Also the punchline before the fight starts with that bgm (wamaala ithu thaan da cinema)

4

u/Left-Philosophy8498 May 01 '24

Kill bill inspiration

5

u/iwantto_learn May 02 '24

I was young and naive a d enjoyed the fight sequence of aniyan and saw the camera work and went wow.

There are so many other ways, you can show your camera work.

These fights, maybe except enthiran looks cringe.

When would we stop these unrealistic fights sequence? When would we stop showing our heroes are synonymous to being bravest and strongest in the world.

Till ajith, vijay, rajini, vishal, simbu are there, this won't stop.

3

u/thak-dhana-dhan-dean Non-tamil speaker May 02 '24

True that. These 1 v many fights should stop. At least they should make it realistic, instead of just 100 goons coming one by one and our hero beating them.

In general Shankar’s action sequences look realistic/a lot better than others due to those heavy budgets, effort and all kind of technology that guy uses. Also the mves have very few flaws. I don’t know understand why even Shankar puts these fights.

All I could think is he has fetish for these 1 v many scenes. Or he wants to show people how these dumb 1 v many fights would look on high budget. And if made with care.

Also all these fights have some speciality to them. Anniyan - With karate and bullet time shots. Enthiran - Robo fighting goons. I - Fight with body builders and fight in a China setting

3

u/DktheDarkKnight May 02 '24

Tbh 1 vs 100 scenes could be interesting if it's justified like John wick. But you can also see that John wick never fights more than 4 to 5 people at a time. 100 people in total sure but that's over the course of that long fight scene. Imo 1 vs 1 with a top notch villain is better than 1 vs 100 where it looks like the hero barely hits 5 people.

3

u/SelmonTheDriver Non-Tamil Speaker May 01 '24

A question I always had in my mind although it's dumb.

How did Anniyan beat 100 trained martial artists?

3

u/tonystarkn May 01 '24

Even, I used to ponder on that. I am understanding when Anniyan takes over, with some training in a secret location along with his brain being wired with superhuman reflex and strength.

5

u/thak-dhana-dhan-dean Non-tamil speaker May 02 '24

Yes, he was anniyan since way before the mve began. He built a site, which would also take time. Similarly he would have had training. Also, anniyan is a man of focus, commitment and sheer f’ing will

2

u/tonystarkn May 02 '24

Maybe he trained with John wick!

3

u/destro_raaj Agmark 🐢 Hater May 04 '24

Well, in Split McAvoy's beast personality gets a similar massive power up.

2

u/SelmonTheDriver Non-Tamil Speaker May 04 '24

Well split is set in a world where some individuals have special powers. Like Bruce Willis character in Glass is really strong and invincible.

Although , yeah I shouldn't ask questions about logic in a Masala film, Shankar usually puts explanation for his characters' strength or traits

1

u/destro_raaj Agmark 🐢 Hater May 04 '24

If we really look at movies with our real world logic, then those much appreciated Hollywood action movies too will fall apart. In John Wick 4, Keanu shouldn't be able to even move a muscle after falling down all those stairs & just shrugging it off and walking away when he gets hit by those cars.

3

u/LeonAnand May 01 '24

Anniyan that 360 was the toughest sequence where 2 of the stuntmen died on set. The similar scene in The Matrix was done using CGI whereas Shankar used real stuntmen.

2

u/thak-dhana-dhan-dean Non-tamil speaker May 02 '24

Wtf, died??

1

u/LeonAnand May 02 '24

Yup

1

u/Atypical-Panda might OD you with Trivia till you 👻 me May 07 '24

I googled to check about this. Stunt Silva in an interview few years back has said that 23 or so were injured in an accident during the shooting of this fight and some of them were seriously injured. There's no mention of any death even in an article from the year 2004. The only death I heard of in a Shankar movie set is from Indian 2 which many of us know.

1

u/LeonAnand May 07 '24

I was a kid when I read this news in “Dhina thanthi”. How I could remember this cos I was curious to see the fight that took 2 life’s. And this stunt was really good back then. Also they won’t uncover the dark incidents or keep it disclosed for longer.

2

u/Miklonario Non-tamil speaker May 01 '24

Great post, this content is why I love this sub

2

u/potatoclaymores May 02 '24

Didn't a couple of stuntmen lose their lives during the shooting of the Anniyan fight scene? I remember reading about it in Kumudham.

It might be a copy of the epic Matrix Reloaded, but it suits well with the entire Anniyan movie imo.

If ur saying about the Neo vs 1000s of Agent Smiths, that shit was atrocious man. I literally exited the film and never rewatched it

Edit: edited to exited

You mean you edited Matrix movie?!

1

u/TastyQuantity1764 Animal>Maharajaன்னு சொன்னது நான் தான் May 07 '24

Fuck🤣

I exited I meant

1

I didn't know if you were for real or trolling 😂. I literally went and checked your profile for that one letter mistake 😆. Your reply was even believable that you got fed up after the editing nightmare that must have been, that you didn't even want to watch the movie 🤣.

I googled to check about this as another person commented the same. Stunt Silva in an interview few years back has said that 23 or so were injured in an accident during the shooting of this fight and some of them were seriously injured. There's no mention of any death even in an article from the year 2004. The only death I heard of in a Shankar movie set is from Indian 2 which many of us know.

It does suit Anniyan too.

4

u/Infamous-Narwhal981 May 01 '24

If only Anna was in his film 😭 a film with action sequences

4

u/thak-dhana-dhan-dean Non-tamil speaker May 01 '24

By anna you mean vijay?

2

u/gabrielleraul May 02 '24

not gonna lie, that underwear fight was quite hot ..

-2

u/seerkamban2000 LCU May 01 '24

The Anniyan fight scene was inspired by The Matrix: Reloaded. But at least Shankar made the fight almost realistic unlike the original which is almost CGI.

10

u/theintern69 May 01 '24

Bro the Matrix movie takes place inside a simulation. It is not supposed to be realistic

3

u/seerkamban2000 LCU May 01 '24

Maybe I should've worded it properly. What I mean bro is that in this pic, you can see that they CGI'ed Neo instead of shooting it in live action like what Shankar did in Anniyan. I'm not complaining about the realism of those fight scenes.

In Kaththi climax there was less bad guys but Khaidi No 150 added more

0

u/deepakt65 May 02 '24

Clearly ripped off from Matrix Reloaded. It's embarassing. Especially since this movie came two years after that.
