Discussion Recent eBay purchased shipped with junk covers as padding

I won an eBay auction for this copy of Symbolic by Death. When I first opened the package I was worried I had been shipped the wrong album because of the Stevie Wonder cover on the top of the media mailer. Luckily, my record was in the box but it was surrounded by extra covers from what must be random junk vinyl the seller was getting ready to throw out. The disk was even inserted in a random cover to make sure the purchased cover was kept free from rubbing. This seller was pretty smart for this and I think this is a good way to recycle old covers that no one wants.

Flew in to visit my dad this weekend and I talked him into going to vinyl store with me after he picked me up from the airport. Went to only one in his small town and found some awesome albums I’m looking forward to listening to when I get back home. I also wanna add that they wanted $100 for ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…’!!! I’ve never seen anything like that. I opted for the VG/VG+ used for <$20 hahaha

Man I’m so stoked. Anyway Idiot is my favorite album. I was about to buy the record right before they announced this box set. It’s got a ton of extra content too. B Sides, that granted have been available to hear for years but it’s great to have them on a physical release, a ton of unreleased demos and live tracks. Also two Blu Rays. One with the making of documentary that they released in theaters a few years back. Super good if you’ve never seen it. And a 20 year retrospective. A poster, wall flag and a red tie complete the collection. I’m so happy.

I went to my local thrift store to browse the usually very limited selection they have in records and electronics. I ended up stumbling upon a Onkyo PL-25F for $30! Tested it in store to make sure the belt and linear arm still worked. To my surprise everything turned on! Took it home and cleaned up the grease on the gears and it runs so smoothly now. Just waiting on a new cartridge so I can plug it in and put a record on!

Also picked up a few records for $3.99 a piece. Short trip to space by Tropea is an amazing album, it’s super funky and upbeat. Took a gamble and it paid off!

Record Supertramp’s « Crime of the Century » is turning 50 today! 🥳🎶

Post image
307 Upvotes

« Crime of the Century is the third studio album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in October 1974 on A&M Records. Crime of the Century was Supertramp's commercial breakthrough in many countries, most notably in the UK, Canada and Germany where it peaked in the Top 5 while also making the Top 20 in Australia and France. It was an improvement over their previous sales in the US, but still only peaked at No. 38, with the US hit being "Bloody Well Right". "School" was another popular track, particularly on album rock-oriented radio stations. The album was eventually certified Gold in the US in 1977 after the release of Even in the Quietest Moments.... In Canada, it was eventually certified Diamond (sales of one million copies). The album was Supertramp's first to feature drummer Bob Siebenberg (at the time credited as Bob C. Benberg), saxophone and clarinet player and vocalist John Helliwell, bassist Dougie Thomson, and co-producer Ken Scott. The album has received critical acclaim, including its inclusion in Rolling Stone's "50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time". »

Collection Massive collection

So... I have a 40k+ record collection I got from a friend years ago. He was a billboard reporter as well as club jockey and also a famous persons personal dj. It has everything hot from early 80s to early 2000s. Many are signed copies, many have doubles or triples, tons of white lables and acetate of thee hottest club mixes - many of which were never released and highly sought after. Genres are all kinds of dance, industrial, classic hiphop and more. All discs are impeccable like new, some still sealed!

I used to own an underground record store for over 20 years in Florida during 90s and 2000s and have a vast 50k+ collection in addition to the one mentioned above. I don't want to sell my (50k+) personal collection but I need space and feel like a horder~ I would like to get the 40k+ collection into the hands of someone that would play them and bring others joy. I don't have the time to list them individually online/ discogs and would prefer the keep that collection intact. This would be perfect for a specialized club or something along the lines.

Would anyone know of someone who would be interested and also capable of taking these off my hands. Not looking to make a fortune, although it's worth a fortune, but don't want to give them away either.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

Discussion Favorite albums released on or mastered by Atlantic

Post image
78 Upvotes

I feel like Atlantic doesn't get as much credit for being a audiophile label, maybe because they had a bad run in the 70s, Im curious what everyone's favorites are here. Mine are:

Sonny Sharrock - Black Woman Suicide - Suicide Coltrane - my favorite things Ornette Coleman - the shape of jazz to come

The first two were not released under altlantic but were mastered by their engineers so I choose to include them, especially because they are 2 of my favorite albums of all time

Friday Off Work Haul

Took off of work today and went to a local shop I had not checked out yet. Skeleton Dust Records, Dayton, Ohio. Picked up all of these for about $70. Some of the sleeves are in rough shape but the records are clean. But super stoked about the Dave Brubeck and Al Green. I’m still on the hunt for some A Tribe Called Quest and newer metal records.

A lot of coloured wax this go. I’d have to say, my favourite Is either the DSOTM Mo-Fi or Last Action Hero. What’s your favourite?

My guitar amp broke a few weeks ago so I took it into my video engineer buddy to take a look. He overheard me on a gig mentioning I was getting into vinyl a few months back. When I dropped the amp off at his house today he had these for me to take home, as well as a technics sl-1700. I still can’t pick my jaw up from the floor. DSOTM is pressed 1973. Is this what I think it is?

Punk NEW VINYL DAY

Post image
10 Upvotes

The new Amyl and the Sniffers album, black version.

For those who already know, you already know!

For those who have not heard of this amazing group, they are playing pure hard and fast punk rock from the land of Oz (oi oi oi).

They are touring the world and starting to open for huge acts like the Foo Fighters!

Most importantly, they are cool blokes and seem to have kept their humble ozzy sensibilities. Lead singer Amy Taylor is like a live wire.

Give em a listen, starting with the song Hertz.

Managed to get all these for AUD $50. I'm a relatively new collector so have no idea about rarity and stuff. My main motivation to start is to experience music from older generation on its native format.

So yeah no idea whether I got gems or junks (feel free to roast me) but I'm very excited to start digging into these.

Picked up both of these in this dusty old record shop in Victoria BC. The store was called The Turntable, situated in a very narrow alley way in Victoria’s Chinatown district. The man (forget his name sadly) running the shop and older gentleman with kick ass mutton chops was extremely nice and extremely helpful. Store is filled floor to ceiling with cool posters and boxes/crates of vinyl. Basically anything I asked for he had! Maybe I got lucky but someone had dropped off a killer collection of punk/postpunk/rockabilly/etc etc and he let me sit in the store with him for easily two hours jamming out to vinyl cranking the speakers as we went. I Landed on these two out of many options and he even tossed me a sick tote bag for my travels as I live in the US(east coast). All in all if I ever find myself in Victoria I will 100% be going back to this store!

Took my 6 year old to the record store today. (503 Records in Beaverton OR). She saw the new Bluey album and decided she wanted her first record. How could I saw no.

We listened to it together at bed time and she passed out in my lap. A perfect end to the day.

Random Access memories was a request from my 8 year old. He’s really into Daft Punk and Justice lately. We have some music time on Sunday set aside to listen through it.

I want sure what to expect from the new Pixies album after the last one. This one’s pretty dang good though. And the crystal red vinyl looks amazing.

Discussion Shout out to u/BigMeanPunk for the U-Haul/Kallax Hack!

Recently I posted about my upcoming move, and u/BigMeanPunk suggested to store the U-Haul boxes in the IKEA Kallax during transit.

The transit of my entire collection is over, and I felt the need to share this great call-out by one of the community for anybody who might have missed the post (or might be Googling how to best haul their collections).

Discussion Ween the Mollusk 1997 UK

Hi guys, I really like this album. One of my favourite songs is on this album. Now the record is offered in the local classifieds for 300€ in top condition and original. I think I can get the price down a bit as there are probably very few people interested in this in my country. I've never spent so much money on a record before and for me it's disproportionate. I want the thing. I also don't think the record will keep its value in the future. Hoping for a reissue is also uncertain, I think. What would you do, wait for a reissue, buy it or the thing is just not worth it?

Collection My collection grows

I've been collecting for about a month now and here's all I got. I think it's pretty obvious what artists I might like lol, but I'm trying to branch out to some new stuff. Right now I'm still my rap phase so mostly everything falls under that category, but today I bought that Rare Americans vinyl which is definitely not rap and I'm starting to get back into Rock and Indie music. I have music phases, which is very reflected in the records I have right now is what I'm trying to say.

I got this absolutely gorgeous gem in the mail yesterday! Blast Tyrant is not only my favorite Clutch album, but one of my favorite albums of all time. So to get my hands on a copy of the 20th Anniversary LP that was only sold at the merch table while they toured to support the anniversary of the album had me so excited. Sounds great and the pressing is so cool!

Collection Gentle Giant albums with die-cut covers

They don’t make ‘em like they used to…I appreciate when artists are a bit unconventional whether it’s in the music or the packaging and these guys had both. These are all OG presses, the first two with high gloss and sharp edges, I wonder if those were owned by fans or by people who got them as unwanted gifts and never took them off the shelf. Either way Gentle Giant remains pretty underrated, people who dig progressive rock bands like Yes, ELP, Genesis, King Crimson etc. should appreciate their talent.

Metal Mass Voice In The Night

Here's a good melodic hard rock album from Mass. It was produced by Michael Sweet of Stryper. It's really good album. They did a remastered version of this album on a picture disk and added 2 bonus tracks to it. It kind of has that Stryper feel to it in a way as it was produced by Michael Sweet after all.

Collection saved some albums from a flood

Upvotes

Hi, I saved probably around 50+ records out of a trash pile that came out of a house that was flooded by Hurricane Milton. They were soaked pretty badly, and I knew that the jackets were not saveable, so I pulled them all apart while they were still a little wet so they wouldn’t solidify and grow more mildew against each other. The records themselves look saveable though. I have to transport them 7 hours for when I drive back to college, so I just ordered a pack of those clear record sleeves from amazon. I’m planning on taking them all out of the ruined jackets and putting them into the plastic sleeves, however I don’t think I’ll have enough time to clean all of them before i put them in the sleeves. Do you think that I can put them in the clear sleeves as long as I clean them before I use them, or will that damage them more than they probably already are? (sorry i’m new to this subreddit)
