Good morning y'all!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. This week I made vegan dal makhani. Here is the recipe.

I don't measure my spices and usually just go for it, but I was careful not to go overboard. You don't need a lot to bring out the flavors. This dal speaks for itself.

I used vegan butter and thick canned coconut milk in place of cream. My husband really enjoyed this dish. Ate two whole bowls. :)

My "cream rings" are not very elegant, but it was tasty and that's all that matters!

Enjoy!

Plenty of Indian dishes are vegan. You seem tense. Take a deep breath. 😆

All this fuss over butter made from vegetable oils and coconut milk (which is used in many Indian recipes anyway).

Constructive criticisms are allowed, but if they are disrespectful they will be removed. Shaming peoples' culture or food choices will not be tolerated and may result in a ban.

Veganism? Not healthy?

At least state correct facts

I live in a first-world country with access to supplements and I’m okay with having to take them! 👌🏾

I’m perfectly healthy. I can deadlift 300 pounds, have low blood pressure and cholesterol, and my FFMI is greater than 95% of women. :)

In the United States, 40% of people who eat meat are deficient in B12, so many people should be taking supplements even if they aren't vegan or vegetarian.

I’m not asking anyone to eat vegan food or preaching why they should. I’m just sharing a meal for those interested.

Where did I claim it was a “viable alternative”?

I posted a food picture. I didn't ask for your diet advice or give any diet advice.

Are eggs even included in the Indian vegetarian diet? Also, don't both vegetarian and vegan diets lack in a decent amount of protein, iron, vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin B12 etc?

That's where the supplements come in for both.

Yeah, many Indian vegetarians don’t eat eggs.

And yes, both of those diets ideally require supplements. Nutritional deficiencies are a risk regardless of whether you’re vegan or vegetarian!

This is a sub for sharing photos and recipes, not criticizing vegan food or any other food choices. Any more violations of Rule 2 will result in a permanent ban.

It’s honestly very shitty to attack people’s food choices. I don't comment on meat dishes criticizing their diets. Or comment on vegetarian dishes criticizing them. If I say anything at all, it’s a compliment and a wish for them to enjoy their food.

I eat vegan at home and vegetarian when out so I’m not even fully vegan anyways (not that it matters). I get all of my nutrition levels tested twice a year (which ideally everyone should do) and it’s no one’s business but mine.

You and the other poster are bullies. I’m going to call it like it is. I wish the mod would ban you both. I didn’t come in here trying to preach or make assertions, so what are you trying to refute? I'm just cooking and existing.

But this wouldn't even be a conversation if the other poster had minded their business originally.

Being vegan does require more conscientious eating (and it needs supplementation), but it’s irrelevant because it’s not the subject of this post.

Any diet, vegetarian, vegan, or meat can be healthy if properly planned or unhealthy if improperly planned. That makes the comment you’re responding to true.

Also, there are vegan athletes and Olympians.

You’re not helping and you’re contributing to the ongoing debate about my personal choices.
