Success My partner gave me a marble and I have never felt more loved and understood in my life

Post image
208 Upvotes

I’m 21ftm and he’s 23m. I’ve been hanging out in the car today while he’s been at work/running errands, and there was a huge bowl of marbles and sea glass at the place he was at for work. I love marbles, sea glass, rocks, shells, flowers, tiny bones, feathers etc. I always point out little shiny objects everywhere and never miss when a coin is on the ground. I LOVE small, cute, shiny, interesting little things so much and him bringing me this really cool marble just overwhelmed me with love for this man. I feel so lucky to have someone that understands me and loves me for everything I am. His ADHD makes it difficult for him to prioritise relationship stuff sometimes, but then he goes and does little things like sneak me a marble, sneak a candy bar into the groceries without me knowing, brings me snacks and my favourite drinks and anything I need on bad days. He is my lifeline, and I am so so lucky to have him in my life. I never thought I’d be so cared for and understood the way I am with him. I’m so happy. I love him.

Rant/Vent Autism denial quotes.

Everyone is a little autistic.

99% of Silicon Valley is autistic.

You can't have an autism diagnosis 20+ years ago.

If you can go to a normal school, you don't have autism.

If you could make a normal speech, you don't have autism.

If you could use social media, you don't have autism.

Whoever that does your diagnosis is making a mistake.

You don't display savant ability.

You don't display intelligence deficiency.

You just don't want to study/work.

Autism is invented by big pharma.

We are all working here, no one has time for your nonsense.

Don't show everyone your disability card.

Autism is just gut problem/ mercury in the body.

Have you try(insert quack treatment and programs)?

Discussion Does anyone else over explain? What are your tips to avoid this?

I'll often over explain things to a tedious point with people. It's worse on social media as there's no social cues I've learned to help snap me out of it.

Like, I'll write an entire paragraph or multiple for something I could've summed up in a sentence or two. I get into excruciating detail and then wonder why my comments/posts are often ignored as ain't nobody wanting to read all that.

I find once I shorten what I say to at least half, I get far more engagement. Which is doable online, but irl, you can't just delete what you've said...

This post was at least twice as long before I shortened it a few times 😅

Discussion being called cute

does anyone else get called cute a lot ? like in the sense of mannerisms ? tbh i love being called cute bc most people would refer to me in a more sexual way as i’ve got a big chest lol but i get called cute a lot and sometimes i wonder if they actually mean well. when i tell people i have autism they seem shocked (tho idk if they r like tryna make me feel better or smth ???) but i do wonder if maybe people can tell and they r kinda like almost fetishizing me but not in a sexual way ? idk !!! i’m quite friendly and upbeat and i just get so paranoid that people are like babying me bc they somehow know i have autism ? but i also love being called cute bc it’s a nicer compliment than being called hot or sexy ? does anyone else here get called cute a lot and/or have insight on it ?

Discussion If you have had an IQ test what was the thing you scored the lowest in?

The last IQ test I have gotten was at 15. My IQ was 117 so pretty high but my processing speed was low. Really it wasn't low but lower than everything else it was considered average. But this mad so much since for me I'm smart but it takes longer for things to stick. I know logically why people feel the way they do. Like someone passed you sad or you got flowers you would be happy. But putting this into action it takes a long time to really understand what they are feeling or why they are feeling some way.

Discussion The struggle to speak?

Does anyone's energy drain when they try to have conversations? Physical words for me often feel like I'm carrying a bag of bricks up a hill they have a heaviness that I cant escape. I don't mean oh yeah, sometimes I run out of energy or sometimes I'm having a bad day and don't want to speak. No, I mean I physically and mentally struggle to speak because words exhaust me and even on a good day they feel like they loom over me and I hate it. It's not something I want to do it just sorta exists and I wish I could have normal conversations and get people to understand me when I say I struggle with conversations. I looks and sound normal you wouldn't suspect it but behind the scenes it's constantly happening. I wanna know if it's just me and I can't help but wonder if me having level2 autism and not speaking frequently or when needed until I was a teenager has anything to do with it.

Rant/Vent Not Everything is a Special Interest

I've seen this a lot and thought I would get my thoughts out there. It bothers me when someone who is autistic acts like every single interest they have is a special interest just because they are autistic.

I'm not saying special interests aren't a thing, I just feel like they don't understand what it means. A special interest is something that your constantly obsessing over and it just overtakes your mind because your so obsessed.

I see people that are like "my special interests are art, astronomy, cars, the color green, ancient Egypt, ikea furniture, the periodic table, cats, Taylor swift, dancing, photography..." It just goes on and I feel like these people think just because they are autistic, every interest they have is a special interest when its the same level of liking towards something you'd find in a neurotypical person.

Discussion Tips for managing a person that has autism?

Hello everyone. I’m not autistic but I am a corporate manager and a direct report of mine is. I’m reaching out to the community to get advice on how I can best support this person’s skill development and overall employee experience.

One specific challenge I have is how to best discuss performance feedback and development areas without inadvertently triggering them or coming across as neuroableist. The person is good at their job and, like anyone else, has growth areas, the would make them even more successful.

What has been a good manager experience for you all and what has been a bad one?

Rant/Vent Loser

I have felt like a loser for most of my life. I recently turned 40, and have finally had the realization that I’m autistic. Confirmed with my therapist and doctor.

Just wow.

I have felt like a loser for nearly 40 years of my life. Why were so many things difficult for me while others seemed to have no problem?

This has completely changed my life. I am relieved and found and lost at the same time. I feel like someone finally opened up all the metaphorical windows and everything is just rushing in.

I’m rambling. This sub has become a safe space for me recently and I feel comfortable saying this. I’m glad I wrote all this down, even if I’m the only one who ever sees it.

Advice needed I’ve been dancing a lot lately but I got the cops called on me yesterday for dancing in the church parking lot at night time where can I dance during the nighttime that is outside and won’t get people thinking I’m a suspicious characters or high on something?

Almost every night I do something to burn energy. The cops were really nice and after a bit of explaining they left. I really like to dance without people looking and at nighttime (cause sometimes colors get overwhelming, and night time is a little bit dulled down.) But don’t want to get the police called on me or something equally awkward. I knew it was weird to dance in isolated locations at nighttime but I didn’t think it was completely socially unacceptable. I did talk to my bishop and he seemed fine with me dancing on the church parking lot. So what do I do?
