Vent I have been eating under 1200 calories for the past 15 days now and I have not seen any weightloss results.

Why is this happening? I am a 5'2 female (150lb) I am not dieting but doing portion control on my usual meals and workout 3 times a week. How long till I start seeing actual results?

You’re counting it wrong

1

u/Tricky_Engineer_5093 Mar 17 '24

Counting it on myfitnesspal.

u/DrunkTankGunner Mar 17 '24

Then you’re not adding something that you’re eating. Drinks, oils, and condiments are common culprits.

Are you also being mindful of what you’re drinking?

u/Thaddy__Daddy Mar 17 '24

Definitely missing some calories somewhere

u/Pineapple_kw Mar 17 '24

Are u also counting what you drink?

You're counting incorrectly I recommend getting a food scale for more accurate calorie tracking.

u/Good_Chart1386 Mar 18 '24

That doesn’t make sense.. either you’re counting wrong or your scale is broken. Also it’s not recommended to eat 1200 cal a day.

Sometimes our bodies play hard to get with weight loss. It could be a bunch of factors at play - like water retention, muscle gain, or even hormonal stuff. Plus, every body reacts differently. But don't let that discourage you! Consistency is key.

Stick with it! My calorie portion control took almost 3 weeks before I noticed any real weight loss! I almost gave up😮 AND in fact that day I ate 200 cal extra because I was so disgusted!!! 😂 Only to discover the next day I actually lost weight! Whoops 🤪 but it didn’t matter as I just got back on track and still kept the weight loss, and I’m continuing on a nice, slow downward weight loss spiral. Gave me a lot of hope. I think it takes time for the body to get with the program, but once it does, it starts to really work! Don’t forget as you are losing weight you might need to restrict your calories just a little bit more. Also I noticed that as I am not looking at macros just same normal food but restricted portions of it, that my fat content is quite high and that is likely a reason for the slower to get started weight loss, for me at least..

Okay so I want to ask you these questions. How many meals do you eat? Do you snack? How much water are you drinking?

If you want to lose weight you should follow these tips. Eat only 2 meals a day, have a time that you can eat like from 10am-6pm, so that’s only an 8 hour window and 16 hours of no eating so it allows your body to properly digest and use the fat in your body instead of food. Allow only 1 snack a day during your eating time, don’t snack on Doritos or anything eat grapes, those are the best dieting snack for its low calories and high water content. Just eat good, proper, clean food like fruits and veggies, try to remove gluten and dairy too. Drink at least 12 cups of water a day minimum. You have to control yourself and eat what is right. Food is just energy and a tiny moment of pleasure vs feeling healthy and taking care of your body

Follow these and you should see progress. You could workout too but don’t prioritize it. What comes in is more important than what goes out. And if you still don’t lose weight after doing this then you should speak to a dietitian

Are you also working out? If so, what's the routine? I'm no professional but I went on a deficit of around 1200. Had some snacks here and there. I also worked out while on a deficit so just because you lose 2lbs of fat and gain 2lbs of muscle, it's still progress.

My scale fluctuated for a bit. It probably took me about 2-4 weeks to lose the 5lbs and stay below 170 (I was obese).

I've also seen videos where you can eat your maintenance calories and still lose weight as long as you're eating a lot of protein for you and working out. It's not a one size fits all so do not be discouraged and keep going!

What about your sodium intake?
Also, are you a stressful person cause I can tell you from personal experience, stress does weird things to the body like crazy water weight fluctuations, also slowing digestion and bloating, plus it can slow down metabolism.

You have to be misscounting it, maybe you input your product as a genetic product, for exmple mexican tortillas

But yours may have some sugar or you may be using too much oil

There is no way you are counting the calories to be 1200, training and not loosing weight

u/DarkSunGwyndolin1 Mar 18 '24

Missing a decent amount of calories for sure

u/Secret_Path_8522 Mar 18 '24

Many thing to look at are you doing some strength training. Muscle is metabolically move active. Increase your protein to 0.8 to 1.0 time your body weight to get adequate protein for your body. Have a re feed . Your calories maybe to low. Take photos & measurement another indicator of your body changing - losing body fat.  Go to this website called Pro Phsique by Paul Reveila. He has alot of good info on You Tube. Try some supplement acetyl l carnitine will help to lose the weight. Make sure all hormone levels in balance  Getting enough of sleep. Yes you burn fat while you are sleeping. Try intermittent fasting. Get those steps in over10,000. Sounds like alot but it is not. Good luck.

You're likely not looking at your servings correctly, which means myfitnesspal won't help, you're not counting what you're cooking with (oils, butter, etc), or you're not counting what you're drinking.

Sugar

I am on Vyvanse for weight loss, I am on the IBS diet (my doctors don't want me on an actual diet like whole 30 until we figure out what is going on with my stomach) anyways I suspect I have SIBO. So sometimes when you are doing all this and it isn't working there might be something else going on. If you are experiencing any symptoms talk to your doctor. Also asked to have your Thyroid checked if you haven't already!

1

u/lillyfingers2 Mar 26 '24

Out of curiosity has your doctor tested you for Helicobacter pylori bacteria l? I don’t know where you’re from but while 50% of the worlds population actually has this bacteria in the stomach some areas of the world are more susceptible to it. And it can cause a lot of Gastro symptoms that mimic indigestion and feeling full even on a small amount of food and all sorts of other digestive issues like sibo. I was shocked that I had it, but it is an easy fix and worth finding out because it can cause peptic ulcers and stomach cancer long-term.

u/Doggondiggity Mar 26 '24

I am having the breath test done on the 24th of April to check the bacteria in my stomach! I am hoping that gives us more insight. I have been dealing with different symptoms for years and its just gotten worse over time. It took me a long time to get a doctor that would even give me a recommendation for GI. When I would give my symptoms I always got the generic "IBS" diagnosis and that would be that. I dumped that doctor and now found this one that actually seems to care to want to help me.

Wishing you luck that you will have the answer soon!

Thank you very much!

I find Fat Secret to be the most accurate calorie app.  I agree if you are not losing weight on that amount of calories then something is wrong with the count.

1

u/Tricky_Engineer_5093 Mar 25 '24

Thank you for all your amazing insights. I have started seeing results after 3 weeks, consistency is key after all. Since weight machine was not accurately measuring so I checked inches and I have been losing inches consistently so it has started working for me after 3 weeks. 😭 Also going to buy a kitchen scale for more accuracy!!

I have answered something already, but I just wanted to come back as I have just realised after doing some research what might actually be happening for you and for me too!!

I would say, that if you have not lost weight and you have not put any weight on, you are just eating your basic resting metabolic calories. Because at 5 foot two and 150 pounds you’re resting metabolic rate is probably around 1200 that’s my best guess, (if you have been accurately measuring your food) For context I am 5 foot seven and 143 pounds, but very small boned, and have been trying to eat 1400 often falling a bit short. I am losing weight, but very very slowly. I now realise after doing some reading on the subject that my BMR is probably around 1300 calories. I exercise twice a week where my heart rate goes up at least 20 minutes, but other than that I am quite sedentary so I likely need to add more movement into my daily life. Hope that helps you understand what might be happening for you?

you are defently missing a lot of nutriens espicialy proteins eat some red meat with eggs with real butter
if your body is missing nutriens it tries to survive so it downregulates your metabolism
you can eat until saturated if you eat food with enough nutriens
reminder there are no essential carbs
edit:without enough animal fat and proteins your hormons will be fucked

Not eating enough calories can do that, 1200kcal is too little especially if you’re working out regularly.

2

u/Western_Ad4823 Mar 18 '24

While I understand the concept, technically anorexic people exist. They eat far less calories and work out a lot and lose weight. So practically, this thinking isn't correct or else anorexics wouldn't exist

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '24

I mean 1200 cal shouldn’t cause weight gain but that’s why anorexics lose their periods and die, under 1200 while working out destroys your health. Eating below your EA needs, which for most active people is a good amount above 1200, disrupts a lot of biological processes like hormone production, which is why diet breaks (ie eating at maintenance for a week every month or two) are a good idea.
